Chloe’s knife–wielding hand instantly froze. Leo’s face was overcast with a dark cloud of
anger as he stormed over, raising his hand and brutally slapping her.
“Chloe Meng, are you insane?! You tried to kill Skylar! Do you have a death wish?! If
anything happens to Skylar, I will *not* let you off the hook!”
Chloe covered her reddened face, her eyes welling with tears. “Leo, I just want to be with
you…”
Leo’s chest heaved violently, practically roaring, “I’ve made it perfectly clear to you! I don’t
love you at all! I was just messing around with you. Stop wasting your time on me! In my
heart, you don’t even compare to Skylar, not in the slightest. You can never take her place in
my mind!”
Chloe looked at him, her face full of grief. “Leo, do you have to be so heartless…”
“Yes!”
“Why… why?!” Chloe shrieked hysterically like a madwoman. “I loved you so much! Why
can’t you love me too? What am I lacking compared to Skylar? What about her is better than
me?!”
“You don’t hold a candle to her, in any way! My eight years with Skylar, you could never
compare to that in a day!”
They argued, their faces red, growing more and more agitated. I rolled my eyes, tired of watching their madness, and pulled out my phone to call the police.
Soon, officers arrived at the scene and took the hysterical Chloe away. As she was led off, she was still screaming desperately, “Leo, I won’t give up on you! Only death… only death can separate us!” Her cries gradually faded into the wail of the police siren.

After Chloe was taken away, Leo took a few deep breaths to compose himself. He turned
to me, his eyes red, pleading. “Skylar, you’ve been giving me the cold shoulder for so many days. Shouldn’t your anger be gone by now? You just saw it, I’ve completely cut ties with Chloe. I’ll never see her again. I promise I’ll fully return to our family, and we’ll live a good life together. Just forgive me this one time, please?”
“Leo, don’t cling to this.” I glanced at him, sighing softly. “There’s no ‘us‘ anymore.”
“Why?” He couldn’t accept it, shaking his head numbly. “I’ve admitted my mistakes and I’m changing. Why won’t you give me another chance?”
“Because you’re tainted.” I looked him directly in the eyes, speaking each word clearly. “The sight of you, now, makes me sick.”
Leo’s face turned ashen, as if he’d been struck by lightning. He covered his face, sinking
to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. After a moment, he looked up at me, his eyes filled
with a desperate resolve. “Skylar, if you don’t forgive me, I’ll die right here for you to see!”
My heart remained unmoved. I walked around him and left, without a single glance back.
Even if he died, I would never soften again.
