“…Reports have surfaced about a significant financial gap in VH Group. Just recently, the
company was promoting a new project. But is VH Group truly thriving as it appears on the surface, or has it already become an empty shell?”
“Now, let’s connect with our reporter on the scene…”

Vanessa turned off the TV and stretched lazily before heading toward the bathroom to wash
- up.
When breakfast was ready, Isla emerged from her room, rubbing her sleepy eyes. The little
girl, wearing a white nightgown, whined softly, “Mommy… I’m hungry.”
Vanessa walked over, scooped her up, and smiled. “Come eat. Do you want to go somewhere
fun afterward?”
Since returning to the country, Vanessa had been busy with work and rarely found time to spend with Isla. Now, she wanted to make it up to her while she had the chance.
“The amusement park! Amusement park! Let’s go!” Isla cheered excitedly, kicking her tiny legs and throwing her hands up with joy.
Vanessa couldn’t help but ruffle her daughter’s hair affectionately. “Alright, alright. If you want to go, we’ll go today, okay?”
“Yay! Mommy is the best!”
“If you think Mommy is the best, then finish your breakfast first,” Vanessa teased with a
smile.
Vanessa carefully prepared Isla’s milk formula and made a breakfast suitable for a five- year–old, blowing on each bite to cool it down before feeding it to her.

Just before they were set to leave for the amusement park, Vanessa received a threatening phone call.
“Vanessa, if you don’t want to make things difficult for yourself, stop meddling and
withdraw from the bidding. Otherwise, be prepared to slink back abroad!”
She had always dismissed such calls.
Glancing at the disconnected number with a scornful smile, she shrugged. “Is that the best you can do? You think you can intimidate me?”
“Mommy, Mommy…” Isla, now dressed in her little dress, bounced into the room. “Let’s
go… to the amusement park!”
“Alright, we’re going to the amusement park,” Vanessa said, reaching down to hold her
hand. The driver had already been waiting for a while downstairs.
Seeing the unfamiliar driver, she instinctively pulled Isla closer.
“Where’s the previous driver?”
The driver explained, “You mean Mr. Jack, right? He took leave to be with his wife for the
birth of their child.”
After thinking for a moment, she recalled that was true, but it still felt off. “Has his wife already given birth?”
“Not yet, but I heard she went into labor last night, and he’s at the hospital with her now.”
“In that case, go visit them this afternoon and deliver what the assistant has prepared.”
The driver, who seemed honest and straightforward, smiled and nodded. “Sure thing.”
At the entrance of the amusement park, the driver said, “Ms. Saxon, we can’t drive any further. Is it alright to stop here?”
“Thank you for your hard work; you can take the rest of the day off.”

As soon as they entered the amusement park, Isla was like a wild horse that had broken free, racing around the entire venue. She quickly made friends with several other kids, sticking closely to them as they explored together, which meant Vanessa had to engage in casual chats with a few other mothers.
“I heard there was a fight at the upscale private kindergarten next door a couple of days ago…”
“Oh? Really? That sounds scary!”
The group
of mothers sat together, gossiping animatedly.
What’s so scary about kids getting into a scuffle?
“Of course! I heard a little girl scratched a boy’s face and almost disfigured him!”
“Is that for real? I can’t believe there are such unruly parents at a fancy kindergarten!”
At this point, Vanessa began to feel something was off. The scene reminded her too much of
what had happened when Isla had dealt with a certain obnoxious boy.
“Do you know which kindergarten it was?” she asked, surprising the other parents with her
sudden involvement, which only fueled their excitement and chatter.
One parent finally mentioned the name of the kindergarten, “It’s called Star Kindergarten, I
think?”
Star? Isn’t that Isla’s kindergarten?
It turned out they were indeed talking about her precious daughter.
“Is Isla also at that kindergarten?” one of the mothers asked.
Vanessa maintained a calm expression, smiling as she replied, “Yes, Isla goes there, too.”
“With how well–behaved Isla is, you must keep an eye on her so she doesn’t get bullied.”

Faced with the other mothers‘ well–meaning advice, she could only smile awkwardly and say, “Oh, that won’t happen…”
“How can you be so sure? Your Isla is such a sweet and obedient girl…”
As they praised her daughter, Vanessa felt a bit shy and interrupted, “Because the little girl who scratched the boy’s face is actually Isla…”
Suddenly, there was silence.
Once the other mothers realized what had happened, they quickly made excuses to leave:
“It’s getting late; I need to take my child to tutoring.”
“Me too, I have to go. Let’s arrange to meet another day…”
“Since the father of our child is probably wondering where they are, I should head back…”
Despite the children’s protests and reluctance to leave, ultimately, they could not withstand
their mothers‘ insistence and were dragged away. Only Isla remained, tilting her head in
confusion as she watched them go.
“Ah…” Vanessa sighed, standing up to say, “Let’s go home too. We can come back to play
with them next week.”
Isla, upon hearing this, dusted herself off and stood up, grinning sweetly as she replied, “Okay, we’ll come back next week!”
Outside the amusement park, Vanessa held Isla in her arms, waiting for what felt like ages
for their ride to arrive.
Her phone kept ringing, so she set Isla down and answered the call.
“Hello…”
She greeted politely, but the voice on the other end was filled with anger and arrogance, commanding her, “Don’t move. Wait for me to pick you up.”

Recognizing the voice, Vanessa calmly and with a hint of a smile, declined, “There’s no need, Mr. Kensington. My car has arrived.”
After hanging up, a luxury car pulled up in front of them, and Luca rolled down the window, saying, “Get in.”
“No, thank you. Our ride will be here any minute,” she replied firmly.
Luca, maintaining the same cold tone he had five years ago, warned, “Don’t make me force you. Get in.”
Onlookers cast curious glances, urging her to comply.
Isla, having a vivid impression of Luca, snuggled closer to Vanessa and whispered, “Mommy, this uncle is always so fierce; I’m scared…”
“Don’t be afraid; Mommy’s here.”
After reassuring her daughter, Vanessa turned to Luca with a serious expression, asking, “Mr. Kensington, are you stalking me or just running into me by chance?”
