“I am looking for you.” Luca glanced at her coldly, then accelerated the car, as if venting his
emotions.
In the backseat, Isla was frightened and tightly nestled in Vanessa’s arms.
“Mr. Kensington, there’s a child in the car. Please drive safely,” she said, furrowing her brows and holding Isla close, her tone carrying a hint of anger.
Only then did Luca glance back at Isla and gradually reduce his speed. “Let’s talk.”
Seeing how scared Isla was, Vanessa didn’t want to spend another second with him. “We have nothing to discuss.”
“Are you sure?” He teased her, adding, “Don’t you want to talk about Mariah or her?”
t
Vanessa tightened her hold on Isla and exclaimed, “Isla is my child; she has nothing to do with you!”
“Vanessa, you’re still the same as you were five years ago.”
“What do you mean?” Vanessa tensed, her heart racing. Did she inadvertently reveal that Isla was his child?
“Sharp–tongued.”
“Think what you want.”
As long as he wasn’t trying to take her child away, Luca’s opinions about her no longer mattered.
Eventually, the car stopped outside a café that offered play facilities for children.
They sat at a table closest to where Isla was playing, and Vanessa’s gaze was fixed on her daughter, never letting her guard down, ensuring her safety.

Luca’s cold eyes were devoid of warmth, reminiscent of how he looked five years ago when he had the doctor administer a labor–inducing injection.”
“Mr. Kensington, you’ve gotten what you wished for. I wonder what you want to talk to me
about?”
“Is the VH situation related to you?”
Luca wasted no time diving into the main topic, revealing his indifference. Did Isla truly ‹ hold no curiosity or allure for him?
Strangely enough, his nonchalance made her uncomfortable.
But isn’t that what she wanted?
Vanessa shrugged, feigning ignorance. “What do you mean, Mr. Kensington? I have nothing
to do with VH.”
“Are you eager to distance yourself because you know something will go wrong with VH,
or…”
“Or what?”
“Or you were the one who notified Mariah Hutchson.”
Her brows knitted slightly before she laughed, “Mr. Kensington, do you have any
evidence?”
Luca’s gaze was deep as he watched her every move, every frown and smile, his heart already certain, but he lacked proof.
It was precisely for this reason that Vanessa wasn’t afraid to confront him.
“Conversely, if you had evidence, you wouldn’t be here questioning me, would you?”
In truth, Luca didn’t care much about the VH situation; he just wanted to ask her. The
answer didn’t matter; her response had already said it all.

“Then let’s talk about her.” Luca’s hawk–like eyes fixed on her, pointing decisively in Isla’s direction. “Is she your daughter?”
Under that piercing gaze, Vanessa found herself unable to lie. She nodded and nervously asked, “What do you want to do?”
“What can I do?” Luca retorted.
“Isn’t what you did five years ago enough?”
Vanessa, agitated, leaned on the table and shouted in the café, her arms trembling. Every time she thought of that incident over the years, it felt as if she bore an immense burden of
guilt. She felt sorry for her parents and for Isla… 1
For five years, she had lived in that mistake like a nightmare; now, she was here to make him pay!
Fortunately, he had no idea what he had done wrong; otherwise, what would be the point of her revenge?
Luca watched her leave with Isla, disappearing into the crowd…
Just like when he learned that she would be leaving him forever.
He suddenly jumped to his feet, not even bothering to grab his phone, and rushed outside, desperate to bring her back–but it was too late this time.
It was as if two parallel lines would never intersect.
That night, deep into the evening.
Vanessa finally managed to lull the startled Isla to sleep. As she watched the fluctuations of VH Group’s stock prices, the long–awaited phone call came through.
She glanced at the number, smiled, and put on her headset to answer.

Mariah was sitting in the stairwell, holding her laptop, compressing evidence to send, but at the last moment, she hesitated before clicking send-
“If you hesitate any longer, it will be too late.”
Vanessa seemed to know Mariah’s every move, kindly reminding her.
But Mariah abruptly closed her laptop and randomly said, “There’s more than just you looking for me!”
“What do you mean?!”
“Beep, beep, beep…”
The call had already been disconnected.
Originally calm and composed, Vanessa couldn’t sit still anymore. After putting down her headset, she began typing furiously on her keyboard. When she discovered who had
contacted Mariah, a victorious smile spread across her face.
“Mariah, did you really think he could help you?”
As she expected, the morning economic news the next day began with reports about the turmoil in VH Group’s stock.
She was spreading butter on her toast while placing a perfectly cooked egg on Isla’s plate, saying, “Looks like someone is about to take action.”
“Mommy, what are you talking about?”
Isla, with her sleepy eyes and soft voice, tilted her little head, looking puzzled.
Vanessa, mirroring Isla’s hairstyle, ruffled her hair and said, “Just some adult work matters that kids don’t need to worry about.”

The two of them were in high spirits that morning, but Vanessa insisted on finishing the
morning news before getting ready, nearly causing Isla to be late for kindergarten.
“Sorry, Miss! I almost arrived late.”
“It’s okay; there’s still time.”
After handing Isla over to the teacher, she was about to drive away when a luxury car blocked her path.
Vanessa honked the horn, and the person who emerged from the backseat was Beatriz, decked out in a collection of designer brands, strutting towards her car with pride.
She didn’t even get out of the car, not bothering to roll down the window.
“Vanessa, are you that afraid of me?”
Hearing this, Vanessa slowly rolled down her window, adopting a mocking expression, and shrugged. “Afraid of you? Are you joking?”
Vanessa, who seemed relaxed and carefree inside her car, appeared diminutive to Beatriz, who looked displeased and ready to cause trouble.
“Vanessa, didn’t you die? Why are you back?!”
In an instant, Vanessa’s gaze sharpened. Leaning slightly out of the car window, she
whispered in her ear, “You really think the same tricks will work on me a second time?” 1
