At our college reunion, my husband Kaelan Maddox lost at Truth or Dare. His punishment was calling the person he regretted losing most.
I sat there listening as some woman answered.
“If I got divorced now… would you give me a home?”
Kaelan didn’t even hesitate. “Yeah. I would.”
The whole room went silent.
Everyone thought I’d lose my shit and flip the table. Instead, I just pulled off my wedding ring and turned away.
That night, he came home past midnight again.
I was waiting with prepared divorce papers. “Kaelan Maddox. Let’s get divorced.”
When I brought up the divorce, Kaelan yanked at his tie with no patience.
“Jesus, Siena, cut it out. You made me look like a fucking idiot in front of everyone over nothing, and now you’re talking divorce? Seriously? You’ve really grown some nerve.”
He promised another woman he’d marry her if she got divorced in front of everyone and somehow I’m the
problem?
Yeah. Three years of me letting him walk all over me, and now he thinks I’m his personal doormat. Like I don’t even have the right to be pissed.
I let out a bitter laugh. “I’m clearing the way for her. Shouldn’t you be happy?”
Kaelan’s face darkened. I caught the irritation in his eyes.
“Stop being so dramatic, okay? It was just a party game. Aubrey’s a girl–what was I supposed to do, embarrass her in front of everyone? Siena, don’t be so damn selfish.”
I nodded. “Sure. You’re always right. So let’s get divorced.”
Second time I’d brought it up. For a second, Kaelan looked panicked. But he pulled himself together fast.
“Siena, don’t threaten me with divorce.”
“Call Aubrey and apologize. Be a good girl, and maybe I’ll forgive you. Otherwise, I don’t mind finding a new Mrs.

Maddox.”
I was fucking ridiculous.
hree years of marriage, and Kaelan’s heart still belonged to Aubrey Sterling.
was such an idiot. Took me this long to see it.
stopped talking and just tore up our only photo together–the one I had begged him to take on our wedding day.
n the picture, he looked miserable while I was all smiles.
used to treasure that photo. Now I ripped it to pieces while Kaelan watched in shock.
Kaelan, we’re getting divorced.”
After a moment of stunned silence, he snapped, “Siena, don’t come crying to me later!”
He slammed the door and left, leaving nothing but paper scraps on the floor.
lassic Kaelan. Whenever I stepped out of line–he’d punish me this way until I crawled back begging for orgiveness. Then he’d graciously let it slide.
But he forgot today was our third wedding anniversary.
‘d planned this whole surprise for him. Never thought he’d call Aubrey at the reunion, let alone promise to marry her without missing a beat.
That killed the last bit of hope I had left.
Three years of marriage, and I finally got it–I’d never warm up his cold heart.

Time to let myself go, too.

The next morning, while opening my Uber app, I saw Aubrey’s Instagram post.
‘No matter when I turn around, you’ll always be there waiting for me.”
The photo showed two hands intertwined. That glaring Rolex on his wrist made my stomach drop.
I’d had that watch custom–made for Kaelan’s birthday, engraved with our initials.
When he first put it on, he said he was ready to let go of the past and give us a real shot.
I was over the moon. Thought my three years of trying finally paid off–that he actually saw me.
That was also the night Kaelan took my V–card.
My hand moved instinctively to my stomach.
Yeah. I was pregnant.
Last night, I’d planned to tell him the good news. But there was no need anymore.
I blocked Aubrey.
Then I went to the hospital alone and scheduled the procedure. When those cold instruments went through my body, the pain brought tears to my eyes.
Perfect.
Now there was nothing left tying me to Kaelan. Nothing at all.
He never called once while I was in the hospital.
The doctor said the damage was severe–I might never have kids again.
Of course it hurt. But honestly, I felt relieved.
At least my child wouldn’t grow up like me, desperately begging for scraps of Kaelan’s love.
“My girl, you finally woke up! That piece of shit never deserved you anyway.”
“Don’t worry–once you’re divorced, I’m hiring you eighteen male strippers. Why waste your time on one asshole when you could have it all?”
My best friend Vivienne Prescott was absolutely thrilled when I told her about the divorce.

Her dramatic reactions almost made me smile.
She looked at me dead serious. “Siena, promise me you won’t go back to him this time.”
I nodded. “I won’t.”
After the divorce, I’m leaving New York for good.
