Chapter 3
I spent two weeks in the hospital. But Kaelan never called once.
When I finally got home, I walked in to find Aubrey wearing nothing but Kaelan’s white dress shirt, her bare legs on Full display.
She tilted her head back on purpose, showing off a hickey on her neck.
‘Kaelan’s such a asshole. I kept telling him to go easy on me.”
My eyes went cold, but not because of the hickey. It was the necklace around her throat.
‘Who gave you that necklace?”
Aubrey flashed a smile. “Oh, this? I just said it was pretty, and Kaelan got it for me.”
I reached for it. “Give it back.”
It was the only thing my mother left me. Kaelan knew that, and he still gave it to Aubrey.
‘No way. Kaelan gave it to me, so it’s mine now.”
Aubrey smirked. “Oh right, this is what your dead mom bought at some auction, isn’t it? Nice taste. But it’s mine
now.”
‘You’re just like your dead mom–always gonna be my runner–up!”
Pure rage took over. I lunged for my mother’s necklace.
But Aubrey switched gears instantly. “Siena, I already explained–my clothes got wet, so I borrowed Kaelan’s shirt. Why are you attacking me?”
‘Cut the bullshit! Give me back that necklace!”
Just as my fingers touched it, Kaelan burst out and shoved me hard.
I couldn’t dodge in time. My waist slammed into the table edge.
The pain was so intense I nearly collapsed. I gripped the table, forcing myself to stand while cold sweat broke out on my forehead.
Kaelan sneered. “Siena, drop the act. You come home and immediately start bullying Aubrey!”
“What, you trying to pull that high school shit again? I’m telling you right now–as long as I’m here, you won’t lay a finger on her!”

“High school shit?”
I stared at Aubrey. “Is that what you told him?”
Panic flashed in Aubrey’s eyes. But she quickly masked it, clutching Kaelan’s sleeve with exaggerated fear. “No, sis, she never bullied me. It’s all my fault. Please don’t be mad at her…”
A few crocodile tears, and Kaelan’s suspicion vanished.
He stepped protectively in front of her. “Don’t worry, Aubrey. I’m here. No one can hurt you!”
He looked at me with pure disgust. “Not even Siena.”
Even though I’d decided on divorce, seeing that cold hatred in his eyes still cut deep.
I remembered years ago when Kaelan held my hand and promised, “I’ll always protect you.”
And he did. Back then.
He was gentle and patient, carrying me to the hospital when I was sick.
Under all that tenderness, I couldn’t help falling for him.
But everything changed when Aubrey showed up.
Aubrey was my dad’s bastard daughter.
She’d always act like I was bullying her to get Kaelan’s sympathy.
Kaelan once called me heartless, accusing me of taking out our parents‘ drama on “innocent” Aubrey.
But he didn’t know his precious innocent Aubrey led the pack bullying me at school. She locked me in bathroom
stalls and made me drink toilet water.
She pressed a heated curling iron against my back, burning my skin so badly I nearly passed out. Only when they realized how bad it was did they call an ambulance.
First thing when I woke up? My dad forced me to sign a settlement agreement.
“Aubrey was just confused. You’re her older sister–you shouldn’t hold grudges.”
He saw the bloody mess on my back. But he just didn’t give a damn.
His heart belonged to Aubrey completely.
I thought at least Kaelan would understand.
So I went to him, only to meet his cold and cruel stare.

“Siena, I never knew you could be so fucking cruel!”
But what the hell did I even do?
I was the victim, but everyone sided with my abuser.
Everything changed after that.
At home, at school–I became the unwanted one everywhere.
Like some evil side character in a drama that everyone hates.
I took a deep breath and held out my hand. “Give me back the necklace. It’s all I have left of my mother.”
Guilt flashed in Kaelan’s eyes for a second.
He knew it. My dad hated my mom so much that after she died, he burned everything she owned. This necklace was
all I had left.
Finally, he softened a little. “Aubrey, just give it back. I’ll buy you something nicer.”
“But I really love it.”
Seeing Kaelan’s stern look, Aubrey shot me a nasty glare but played the good girl, reaching up to take off the
necklace.
Just as my fingers were about to touch it, she let go.
The necklace hit the floor and shattered.
I didn’t hesitate and slapped her hard across the face.
The next second, Kaelan shoved me to the ground. “Siena, what the fuck is wrong with you? Bullying Aubrey right in
front of me,I never realized how fucking disgusting you are!”
I fell onto the broken jade pieces. Blood covered my hands.
Kaelan looked guilty for a second, then clenched his fists. “Siena, you hurt Aubrey. You deserve this.”
How pathetic.
My husband was holding another woman, calling his own wife heartless.
“Yeah! Guess the evil wife should step aside, huh? So did you sign the divorce papers yet?”
He’d already moved his mistress in. I thought he’d obviously signed them.
But for some reason, Kaelan looked pissed off when I said that.

Chapter 3
“Siena, you really want to divorce me that badly?”
Aubrey put on her sad act. “Siena, please don’t fight with Kaelan because of me. I’ll leave if you want… it’s all my
fault…
She said that while clinging to Kaelan like a koala.
Her shirt was half–open–anyone could see what she was doing.
Everyone except blind–ass Kaelan.
“Aubrey, you don’t need to apologize to her. I’m here–she can’t hurt you.”
Kaelan looked at me with contempt. “Siena, don’t think I don’t know what you’re doing. Threatening me with divorce, right? I fucking hate being threatened!”
I laughed coldly. “Kaelan, you think way too highly of yourself.”
“I don’t want a dirty man.”
“You like her so much? She’s all yours. Enjoy yourself!”
“You-”
Aubrey’s eyes lit up when she heard “divorce.”
She grabbed Kaelan’s arm, playing innocent. “Siena, you’ve got it all wrong. Kaelan and I aren’t what you think. I just got back to the New York and don’t know anyone else, so I had to ask him for help…”
“Oh, so your dad’s dead and won’t even let you come home?”
Even Kaelan didn’t expect me to be that brutal.
He snapped, “Siena, look at yourself! Where’s the dignity of a Mrs. Maddox?”
“In your mind, only Aubrey deserves to be Mrs. Maddox. So let’s get divorced.”
“Can you stop bringing up divorce every five seconds?”
“Isn’t this what you want? My future brother–in–law.” I emphasized “brother–in–law,” and Kaelan lost it.
He grabbed the divorce papers from the table, signed them in front of me and threw them at my feet.
“Happy now?”
“I’m telling you–even if you beg me later, I’ll never forgive you!”
I checked his signature carefully and finally let out a breath.

“Don’t worry. I won’t.”
At the door, I turned back like I’d just remembered something.
“Oh, and we’re filing tomorrow. Try not to be late.”
All I got back was Kaelan’s cold “Get the fuck out!”
Aubrey stood there with a smug little smirk. Maybe she thought she’s won.
But she had no idea–I didn’t want anything anymore. Including him.
