Chapter 6
he day before the wedding, I got a call from an unfamiliar number.
It was Kaelan.
“Siena, I’m getting married tomorrow.”
“Oh. Congratulations.” T
He sounded almost desperate as he responded. “What I mean is–I don’t have to get married. If you’d just come back,
we could be like we used to be!”
I almost laughed.
When I was completely devoted to him, he treated me like I was invisible.
Now that I’d finally given up on him, suddenly he thought he loved me.
But you don’t fall into the same pit twice.
“Kaelan, we’re divorced.”
“When we got divorced, you asked if I’d regret it?”
“My answer hasn’t changed. I don’t regret it.”
Silence on the other end. Finally, Kaelan’s voice came through hoarsely: “Siena, you’re ruthless.”
“Right when I finally realized I’m in love with you, you walked away without looking back.”
He took a deep breath before continuing. “I’ll be waiting for you at tomorrow’s wedding. As long as you come, the bride can be you again.”
Without waiting for my response, he hung up.
Vivienne woke up in the middle of the night and saw me staring at my phone, lost in thought.
“Why aren’t you sleeping?” she mumbled.
“Thinking about what wedding gift to give Kaelan tomorrow.”
Vivienne immediately jumped up. “Are you insane? That piece of shit doesn’t deserve anything!”
“Of course he does. I’m giving him a gift he’ll never forget.”
