Chapter 28
Evelyn turned around and saw Martin sitting in a wheelchair, his cold appearance unaffected.
It instead gives people a sense of broken beauty.
Her heart felt a little uncomfortable for no reason.
But Martin was her savior, why did she feel like escaping?
Adhering to the business relationship, she greeted, “Mr. Wilson, what are you doing here?”
Martin felt a slight sting in his heart from Evelyn’s distant tone, but he calmly concealed the past and said, “Just passing by, there’s a light restaurant nearby, shall we go together?”
Evelyn hesitated for a moment, about to refuse, when she heard Martin speak, “Don’t you want to know about the Easter Group’s project?”
From the company’s perspective, Evelyn agreed.
The two of them sat in a high–end restaurant, the man handsome and the woman beautiful, appearing particularly well–matched to outsiders.
Evelyn, however, ate absentmindedly.
She still preferred to eat the food cooked by Reed. If he knew, he would probably be more motivated
to learn cooking.
Thinking of this, I couldn’t help but smile.
The woman in front of him, with a gaze full of tenderness, made Martin’s heart tighten slightly. In an instant, memories of Reed, who had been with her, flashed through his mind.
Martin’s face immediately darkened. He thought for a moment and then decided to take out the gift
behind him.
He placed it on the table and said lightly, “Nell’s artwork, I hope you will like it.”
Evelyn was stunned, was it the painting at the auction?
The 1,670,000–dollar painting, just given away like that?
Evelyn realized and waved her hand to refuse, “Mr. Wilson, it’s not necessary. You can keep it for yourself. Besides, you saved me and I haven’t repaid you yet, so how can I accept something from you?”

Her tone made Martin feel a little distant.
They used to be so close in the past, but now they are so unfamiliar.
“Didn’t you say you wanted to repay me? Then keep it.” Martin made a firm decision.
Seeing that he insisted on sending it, Evelyn’s discomfort became more apparent, and her tone
became more serious.
Evelyn pushed the painting back and smiled politely, “Mr. Wilson, I cannot accept it. We are competing companies, and I don’t want to end up in a lawsuit for accepting kickbacks.”
The word “kickback” hit Martin’s heart heavily, and a slight pain swept over him.
He couldn’t help but recall the disappointed look in Evelyn’s eyes in the previous life, and later investigations proved Evelyn’s innocence.
He wanted to tell her that he had cleared his name, but she would never come back again.
With this thought, Martin’s eyes dimmed, “Evelyn…”
Before the words were finished, Evelyn’s gaze passed through me and landed behind me.
Bright eyes, making people smile knowingly.
Martin turned his head and noticed Reed approaching with a smile. The two exchanged a glance,
and Reed’s smile faded slightly.
Reed approached the table and his gaze fell upon the painting. His face darkened for a moment, but he quickly concealed it and asked with a smile, “Mr. Wilson, I haven’t eaten either. Shall we eat together?”
The slow music in the restaurant suddenly changed to an enthusiastic symphony.
As the music played on, both sides engaged in battle, exchanging blows back and forth.
At this moment, the music changed to a melancholic melody, and the beauty transformed into a gust of wind, sweeping in. Both sides ceased the war, lowering their flags and drums.
The convergence of gazes battled for several rounds, all suppressed by Evelyn’s presence.
Martin’s eyes sank, and he raised his chin, saying, “Sit.”
Evelyn felt a strange atmosphere, but couldn’t quite put her finger on it.
It took a few seconds for me to react, and I realized that having dinner with the CEO of a competing,

company was quite sensitive.
In Evelyn’s eyes, reporting to the boss was nothing out of the ordinary,
But in the eyes of someone who pays attention, the meaning is different.
