Chapter 32
Evelyn nodded and instinctively replied, “He was fine.”
Reed’s mother’s expression became excited, and she leaned forward, “So, what do you think about- being a boyfriend?”
Time seemed to stop at this moment, and she thought about a lot of things in that instant.
The bits and pieces of the past two years began to emerge.
When they first met, Reed took over the company under the pressure of his parents.
Back then, he was arrogant and domineering.
The company was in a chaotic state.
Reed’s parents were extremely angry. They had previously decided not to intervene and did not step
in to save face.
The next day, the phone rang at Hannah’s place.
She was so annoyed that she had no choice but to reluctantly let Evelyn go.
Evelyn achieved her current success with the support of the Peterson family.
I heard that I was asked to help, without saying a word, I packed up and went back, also thinking about giving Reed a good lesson.
As soon as I arrived at the company, I heard loud music coming from the office.
Reed and his group of friends, surprisingly, went clubbing at the company.
At that moment, she was exuberant and everyone received a hammer.
Under her forceful suppression, Reed finally obediently went to work.
What truly changed him was a mistake he made.
The whole department’s efforts of half a year went down the drain.
Faced with the pressure from the board of directors and the disappointed looks of the employees, he, for the first time, shed his cynical expression and appeared somewhat at a loss.
That day, Evelyn accompanied Reed in the office and watched the stars all night.
He looked at the starry sky, his eyes filled with confusion, and murmured, “Am I really so

terrible?”
Evelyn’s response was merciless, “Yes.”
Reed pouted and unhappily said, “Can’t you comfort me?”
Evelyn glanced coldly and said, “No, it’s wrong. People always find the path to success through repeated failures. Just consider failure as the mother of success.”
“You were born as someone else’s starting point, Reed. You should have grown up by now, an outstanding graduate from Business School. You shouldn’t be so disappointing, right?”
After that conversation, Reed started wearing wire–rimmed glasses and his personality gradually became more stable, but he still occasionally showed a nasty side in his daily life.
As for when did the feelings start to develop?
Evelyn couldn’t remember anymore.
It was the days and nights of companionship, the tacit confrontation at the negotiation table.
I only remember, when I think of him, my heart becomes sweet.
He respected me, acknowledged me, and trusted me.
Provided 100% unconditional support.
When she realized it, she found herself already trapped in the web and couldn’t escape.
Of course, she was also unwilling to jump.
The fragment flashed by, lasting only a few seconds.
She smiled and responded to Reed’s mother, “Having a boyfriend is also nice.”
Reed’s mother’s eyes lit up. “That’s right, I think so too,” she said, looking up at Reed who was playing chess with his father.
Evelyn followed his gaze and saw him staring at the chessboard in silence, unable to help but smile
inexplicably.
Reed was not good at playing chess and would often lose.
Reed’s father enjoyed playing with him and always experienced the joy of domination.
Evelyn suppressed a smile and affirmed, “It seems like I lost again.”

Reed’s mother, upon seeing this, chuckled and thought to herself, “This is a sure win.”
Son, your mother has already done her best, you have to put in some effort!
It got dark.
Evelyn was getting ready to leave when she was pulled aside by Reed’s mother at the door and they
chatted for a while.
Under her insistence, Evelyn agreed to come back and have dinner in a few days.
Reed drove her home and quickly arrived downstairs at Evelyn’s building.
Evelyn slowly unbuckled her seatbelt and turned her head to give Reed a deep look.
“Reed, I was lacking a boyfriend.”
