Chapter 7
The posts hadn’t even been up for two days before Hector made them all disappear.
He didn’t ask me any questions about it, just told me not to worry.
When I walked out of the office that evening, Hector was waiting by the entrance with bags of stuff.
“These are all the sweets you used to love when you were a teenager. I know you have a sweet tooth, but I wasn’t sure if you still… I mean, if you don’t like them anymore, I can totally-”
Watching Hector–this guy who was always so confident and in control–stumbling over his words trying to be sweet to me was honestly adorable.
It hit me right in the feelings.
I used to love sweets.
Still do, actually. Guess I’ve had enough bitter to last a lifetime.
“I love them. Thank you.”
I took the bags from his hands.
“Aurora!”
That voice made my blood freeze.
Cassian. But how the hell did he find me here?
Wasn’t he supposed to be living happily ever after with Melody?
“So you ditched our wedding and killed our baby just so you could shack up with this random dude? Real classy, Aurora. Should I be impressed by your little romance here? You’re coming with me. Now.”
He grabbed my wrist and started dragging me away.
I yanked my arm back and stepped away from him.
“Cassian, watch your goddamn mouth. We’re done, so who I’m with is none of your business.”

His face got darker with every word I said.
“Aurora, if you come with me right now, I’ll give you a chance to make this right. I’ll forgive the whole wedding disaster. Don’t be stupid.”
I actually laughed. A cold, mocking laugh.
“Cassian, you need serious professional help if you think I’m ever going back to you. What makes you think you can just snap your fingers and I’ll come running? Well please do me a favor–stay the hell away from me.”
I was getting more pissed off by the second, letting out ten years of rage.
All that humiliation, all that pain–it came pouring out.
Cassian looked genuinely shocked.
He’d never seen me like this before.
I was always his good little girl, always forgiving him no matter what horrible thing he did. A few sweet words and I’d come running back like a lovesick puppy.
But love never died all at once. It bleeds out slowly.
“Babe…”
Cassian used the pet name he only pulled out when he was trying to manipulate me.
“Don’t dare you call me that. It makes me sick. We’re done. Forever.”
I grabbed Hector’s hand and we walked away.
Hector stayed quiet, letting me lead him wherever I wanted to go.
When we got to the front door, he stopped and looked at me seriously.
Suddenly I felt panicked.
Was he disgusted by me now? Did he think I was some dity bitch like Cassian mentioned?
“Aurora… I didn’t except how bad it was for you after I left. I’m so sorry. That’s never happening again, I promise. I want you to be that fearless little queen you used to be. Can you do that for me?”
I looked up into his eyes and shook my head instead.

Chapter 7
“Aurora, what’s wrong?”
Hector stepped closer and took my hands.
“It’s just… this doesn’t feel real. Being loved doesn’t feel real. I’m so afraid wake up and be alone again. That I’ll always be that pathetic woman everyone throws away.”
Hector immediately pulled me into his arms.
“You’re not alone–we’re all here.”
