Chapter 8
Cassian showing up actually brought Hector and me closer together.
I was walking to the restaurant where Hector was waiting for me after work.
Looking at the peaceful Thames, all that old bullshit felt like it didn’t matter anymore.
“Aurora! You fucking whore!”
Melody came out of nowhere.
Her face was twisted with rage as she stormed toward me.
SLAP!
The slap knocked my head sideways.
“What the hell is wrong with you?!”
Melody’s laugh was absolutely batshit crazy.
“Yeah, I’m insane! I’ve lost my goddamn mind! Why won’t he marry me even after you’re gone?! I was there FIRST! I knew him before you even existed!”
I backed away, worried she might do something even crazier.
“Whatever toxic shit you two have going on is not my problem anymore. I’m done. I just want to live my damn life in peace.”
1 kept trying to make it clear I was done with all their drama.
But Melody wasn’t hearing any of it.
She lunged forward and wrapped her hands around my throat.
1 fought back, shoving her off me as hard as I could.
“Aurora! Don’t you fucking get it? He was supposed to love ME! You were just some cheap knockoff! What kind of sick manipulation did you pull on him?!”
Her eyes were bloodshot, completely wild.

Suddenly, I felt sorry for her.
Here she was, looking like absolute hell, screaming herself hoarse over some guy who didn’t love her enough.
“Melody, wake up! Is he seriously worth destroying yourself like this? You’re gorgeous, you’re successful–why are you throwing it all away for him?”
Melody’s laugh was even worse than her crying.
“You don’t understand, Aurora. I love him so much it’s like breathing. When I had to leave for treatment, I thought about him every single second. But when I came back, he had YOU. You don’t know, but I do–I saw how crazy he was about you.”
Tears were streaming down her face.
“Aurora, I can’t forget him. I can’t let go. If he loves you that much, then you need to fucking die.”
She rushed at me, trying to shove me into the river.
I fought back instinctively.
Melody’s foot slipped and she started falling toward the water.
I grabbed her hand without thinking.
“Hold on!”
Melody suddenly went calm, looking at me with confusion.
“Aurora! What the fuck are you doing to Melody?!”
Cassian came running over, immediately blaming me.
That was so typical–he claimed to love me, but his actions never hacked it up.
Seeing Cassian made Melody snap again.
“Let’s die together, Aurora.”
She grabbed my arm and pulled me down with her.
When we slammed into the water, everything went fuzzy.

Chapter 8
Everything went black.
Right when I thought I was dying, all I could think about was Hector, Mom, and Dante. All those happy times we’d shared.
Through the haze, I felt someone grab my hand tight.
When I finally opened my eyes, Hector was there, completely soaked.
You saved me again.”
Hector’s whole face lit up when he saw I was awake.
“Why did you say ‘again“?”
I smiled but didn’t answer.
Cassian was standing off to the side, also dripping wet.
There was an ambulance behind him.
Melody had passed out from the shock and emotional breakdown after hitting the water.
“Is he… are they gonna be okay?”
Hector handed me a dry towel.
“Cover your eyes.”
