Chapter 8
Celeste’s expression twisted with rage, but the moment she saw Evric, she instantly shifted back to her usual pitiful facade, throwing herself into his arms with a trembling voice.
“Evric! You’re finally here. I thought you abandoned me for that bitch Nerina.”
Evric impatiently pushed her away. “Stop calling her that, Celeste. Have you forgotten all your manners?”
Celeste froze, stunned by the scolding. “Evric, you’re still defending Nerina? I’m your mate! How could you yell at me over some lowly Omega? If that’s how it is, I might as well break the mate bond with you right now and walk away from you
forever!”
She used the threat of leaving as a weapon, sure that he would back down like always.
But Evric just nodded. “Fine. That’s exactly why I came here, to talk about breaking the mate bond. From now on, we go
our separate ways. No more ties between us.”
At his words, Celeste’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Evric! Do you even know what you’re saying? You’re going to leave me? After everything we’ve been through, how could you?!”
Evric’s voice turned cold. “I realized that whatever feelings I had for you faded long ago. I only clung to them out of regret. But now, someone else has taken root in my heart. There’s no point in dragging this out any longer.”
“You’ve fallen for that bitch Nerina, haven’t you?!” Celeste screamed.
Her words enraged Evric. He raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face.
“If you say her name like that again, I swear I’ll end you,” he said through gritted teeth.
Celeste clutched her stinging cheek, eyes manic as she burst into hysterical laughter. “Oh, I’ll say it! I’ll say it again! Nerina is nothing but a whore! A filthy slut who would spread her legs for power and sleep around! What makes her worthy of your love? Do you think I don’t know why you brought her to Ebonhart Pack in the first place just because she looks like
me?”
Evric’s face darkened. In a heartbeat, he lunged forward, grabbing her by the throat.
“Since you’re not afraid of dying,” he growled, “then you can enjoy every punishment Nerina once endured to the letter.”
With that, he flung her to the ground and turned to the Beta behind him. “Recreate everything. The burns, the scalds, the bruises, whatever Nerina suffered, give it all to her.”
The Beta obeyed with a chilling calm. Evric ignored Celeste’s gut-wrenching screams and pleas for mercy as he turned and walked out.
Back at home, Evric locked himself in his room.
He drank day and night, his already fragile stomach deteriorating quickly. Eventually, the ulcers got the best of him, he collapsed alone in his room.
By the time someone found him, he was barely alive.

After hours of emergency treatment, he was finally stabilized.

But the first words out of his mouth were hoarse and desperate, “I can’t take it anymore. I have to find Nerina.”
After leaving Ebonhart Pack, I took a bus back to my hometown, a quiet little town on the edge of a forest.
I never imagined that meeting Evric would turn into such a trap. Back then, I was lured in by the promise of a high salary, only to become a substitute for someone else, falling into a trap I couldn’t escape and trapped in that gilded cage for four
long years.
What I thought was love had turned bitter and painful. I didn’t want to touch it ever again.
So I chose to leave that place of heartbreak. I used the money I’d saved over the years to buy a pack house and started
renovating it into a guesthouse.
But before that, I spent two full weeks just resting and recovering.
Once I had the strength, I began planting flowers in the courtyard, especially my favorites, the bellflowers.
As I watched them sway freely in the wind, I finally felt the freedom too.
One month later, the renovation was complete. I had filmed the process and shared it online. And surprisingly, my videos gained a decent following.
When the guesthouse officially opened, I received many bookings from travelers.
I often sat with them in the courtyard, hearing stories from all corners of the world. Those conversations began to heal the barren parts of me.
But one day, while chatting with a guest, I heard something about Evric.
“Have you heard about the Alpha of Ebonhart Pack? A big-shot like him is going crazy over an Omega! Pack meetings are already full of power struggles, and now Evric’s completely ignoring his duties and even the pack just to look for her. A bunch of major deals have fallen through, and the pack’s losing money fast. There’s talk he might get kicked out soon.”
I froze at the words.
I thought the note I left was clear enough. I didn’t want Evric to come looking for me, but apparently, he didn’t follow as I
said.
Besides, wasn’t he happy with Celeste?
Why would he still be looking for me?
