Chapter 5
When I got to the car, the driver was nowhere to be seen.
Chase was in the passenger seat, Sienna in the back.
The atmosphere was as awkward as always.
I looked at Sienna’s slightly swollen lips and smirked sarcastically.
So all those times when they’d get flushed and flustered around each other–it was because they’d been making out behind my back…
And I’d naively thought they were just arguing.
I slumped into the backseat and closed my eyes, exhausted.
“Where’s the driver?”
Chase replied, “Bathroom break. I’ll call him right now.”
I hummed softly in acknowledgment.
Chase turned around and handed me my thermos.
The scent of rock sugar and pear drifted into my nostrils.
“Tired?” he asked gently.
Then he fixed his gaze on Sienna, his tone commanding. “Sienna, come sit up front.”
“No, don’t.”
I opened my eyes and grabbed Sienna’s hand, turning to smile at her.
“I still have so much girl talk to catch up on with Sienna.”
Chase frowned with displeasure. “What kind of girl talk can’t I hear?”
My smile widened.
“Talking trash about you, obviously. If you heard it, you’d definitely kick Sienna out of the car.”
Chase snorted.
“Future sister–in–law, I don’t care how much you oppose this marriage–Vivienne and I are making it official now. You better watch your mouth from now on.”
Sienna seemed to sense something and didn’t snap back like she usually would.
Her face stiffened, and she looked at me with guilty eyes.

Chapter 5
I leaned close to her ear and whispered:
“I went to the Meridian last night.”
Sienna flinched and dropped my hand like she’d been electrocuted.
I figured she’d been with Chase last night and learned that I’d tested him.
But she didn’t dare react too dramatically.
So she knew I’d tested Chase, but not what I’d discovered.
She’d been fishing for information all day.
I laughed aloud, fighting the stabbing pain in my chest as I said maliciously:
“I saw everything–your little affair, your betrayal.
“My dear Sienna, my best friend. You’ve been so very good to me!”
Sienna gripped her skirt tightly and turned her face away, but I forced her to look at me.
She tried to signal Chase in the front seat.
But he didn’t notice–some family friend was greeting him through the window, so he got out of the car.
Sienna tried to follow him out, but I grabbed her wrist.
“Where are you running to?”
I said coldly, “Isn’t everything going according to your plan?
“I find out about both of your betrayals before the wedding, then I break up with him and you swoop in.
“You weren’t afraid to expose yourself, so why fear me seeing it firsthand? The outcome’s the same either way, isn’t it?”
Sienna stopped struggling and turned to face me, biting her lip.
I steadied my emotions and said calmly:
“You knew I’d already tested Chase, yet you still dared show up at the rehearsal today. You wanted to gauge my reaction, didn’t you?
“Well, here’s my reaction!
“I’m not following your little script. I’m going through with marrying Chase and making it legal.”
I watched the shock spread across Sienna’s face and smiled sarcastically.
“You don’t believe in reformed bad boys, and neither do I.
“Rich guys–which one doesn’t have a wife at home and mistresses on the side?

“You think I’d marry Chase without that kind of awareness?
“But you–you actually fell for him, didn’t you?
“Does he really care about you though? Even as a mistress, rather than just… a toy?
“You’re not stupid enough to believe his sweet talk, are you?
“You know what? If I exposed what happened last night right now, Chase would throw you out immediately and then get on his knees begging for my forgiveness. He’d treasure me even more for the next few years out of guilt.
“So tell me what do you think he’d do to you then?”
Tears welled up in Sienna’s eyes.
My heart clenched, and I took a shaky breath.
I couldn’t help choking up. “You threw away over twenty years of friendship to betray me for a guy like him?”
Sienna buried her head in her hands and covered her ears.
I turned away, unable to control my own tears.
It hurt.
It really hurt so much.
Something that had taken root in my heart and grown intertwined for decades was being brutally ripped out.
Every tear brought flesh and blood with it, the pain nearly suffocating me.
“Why are you crying?”
Chase got back in the passenger seat and immediately sensed something was wrong.
When he turned around, his brow furrowed deeply.
“Sienna, what did you say to Vivienne? Why did you make her cry?”
He got out and squeezed into the backseat, saying sternly:
“Sienna, go sit in the bridesmaids‘ car.”
Sienna went pale, her lips trembling as she looked at Chase in disbelief,
“Can’t you understand what I’m saying?”
Chase harshly ordered her out.
Sienna wiped her tears and slammed the door as she left.
Chase pulled me into his arms and asked softly:

“Baby, tell me what you two were talking about just now.”
Outside the window, Sienna clearly hesitated.
I said shakily, “You’re misunderstanding her. We were just having some emotional heart–to–heart girl talk.”
Chase frowned with displeasure.
“Is she insane? Bringing that up at a time like this–what if it affects your mood? You have to get your makeup done tomorrow. What if your eyes are swollen from crying…”
He spoke loudly enough that his voice carried through the car window.
Like a dull knife pressed against Sienna’s back, urging her to quicken her pace.
Tomorrow is our wedding day.
