Chapter 10
The day after visiting my grandparents, I woke up early, packed my luggage, and headed to the airport.
Before boarding, I got a call from Griffin Hale.
He said Chase had been in a car accident on his way back.
He was seriously injured but refusing treatment.
Griffin wanted me to come back and talk some sense into him.
I frowned and stayed silent.
The airport announcements echoed through the phone.
Griffin exclaimed from the other end, “You’re at the airport?!”
A moment later, he lowered his voice. “Perfect. Hurry and catch a flight or train back here. Chase is in a really bad state emotionally. You need to say something to calm him down.”
“You’re on speaker, aren’t you?”
Griffin stuttered like he’d been caught. “Uh… yeah, it’s been on speaker the whole time. Go ahead and talk… Chase is listening.”
I said coldly, “Chase, we have absolutely nothing to do with each other anymore. I won’t worry about you because of these dramatics, and I certainly won’t come back.
“I will never forgive you for betraying me.”
Heavy breathing came through the phone.
Then Griffin exploded on the other end: “Vivienne!
“How can you be so heartless?! Chase is hanging by a thread, and you choose this moment to say that to him? Are you trying to kill
him?
“Do you have any idea how furious Chase’s parents were about you humiliating him at the wedding? If Chase hadn’t taken a beating to protect you, you’d be dead by now!
“He came to see you with whip marks all over his back, and you didn’t even come home with him.
“Now he’s lying in a hospital bed on oxygen, and you’re still saying this cruel shit! Do you have any conscience left?!
“He treasured you so much! He swallowed his pride and bent over backward to make you happy, and this is how you repay him?!”
My throat tightened.
“If he really treasured me, he wouldn’t have slept with Sienna.

“And you’re no saint either.
“When he gave up his bad habits but still kept hanging around with you guys, I should have realized he was still cut from the same
cloth as all of you!”
“Vivienne!”
I hung up the phone.
I grabbed my suitcase and continued on my journey.
