6 Chapter 6

My father stood up, pointing at Zahra with a pained expression. “We treated you like our

own daughter, and you did this to Layla behind our backs!” 1

Zahra shoved her away, snarling, “Stop pretending to be a saint! Weren’t you just as

eager to abuse her as I was?”

“Why don’t they donate their own eyes? How could they say something like that?”

The tide of public opinion had turned completely.

She was the one who told me that after the plan to marry me to cousin Omar failed, my

father had found a new buyer.

I just wanted to get away, but she always found me.

The irony was, as she rushed toward me, she tripped over her own feet. She stumbled,

and her eye slammed hard into the sharp corner of a marble step.

“This

guy is old, ugly, and a gambling addict,” she’d said with a smirk. “But he’s willing to pay four hundred thousand dollars. And if you have a son, he’ll add another hundred

thousand!”

Unsurprisingly, my father decided it was my fault.

She lunged at me. I dodged.

dn’t understand why she hated me so much.

Everything that was yours is now mine,” Zahra said. “Why are you still alive? Why don’t you just die?”

She slipped off her high-heeled shoe, aiming the sharp, pointed heel right at me.

A Pakistani businessman who had moved to the US, named Rashid Khan.

“Are you out of your mind, Zahra Naziri?” I demanded. “Why are you so determined to

ruin my life? You know exactly how your parents died!”

I thought she had gone completely insane. All I wanted to do was push her away and run.

6 Chapter 6

“Unbelievable! What kind of parents are these?”

Eventually, I came to understand the true depth of Zahra’s malice.

I distanced myself from the family, not just because of my parents’ favoritism, but because

I was tired of fighting with Zahra.

I knew I could never win against her.

That day, we had a massive fight.

Zahra let out a cold laugh. “Don’t play the victim, Uncle Farid. Or have you forgotten that

you siphoned the life insurance money my parents left me?”

In that moment, my heart didn’t just break. It died.

“That Zahra is the real monster!”

“You ruined Layla!” my mother screamed, lunging at Zahra.

I didn’t even bother to argue. “Think whatever you want.”

I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. “And what about me, if I give her my eyes?”

My mother was sobbing. My father hung his head in shame.

“She was trying to escape through an emergency exit,” one of them reported.

Her face was scraped, and her eyeball was severely damaged.

You killed my parents!” Zahra shrieked, her voice hysterical. “You’re the one who should

e dead!”

“You don’t have much of a future anyway,” my mother cried, grabbing my arm. “Zahra is different! She has a bright future ahead of her! She can’t be blind!”

Zahra was dragged back by two guards and shoved into her seat.

Zahra kept her head down. Without her sunglasses, her panic was on full display.

At those words, all the color drained from my parents’ faces.

“You ungrateful monster!” My father was furious, kicking out at me. “Zahra’s going to be

blind! You should give her your eyes!”
