Chapter 4
My voice carried loudly, quickly reaching the ears of the Forrester family members who hadn’t yet departed.
They returned and immediately opened the chapel doors.
‘You–you’re telling the truth? You really know why they died?” Mrs. Forrester asked, looking at me with excitement
“Those brides‘ deaths have absolutely nothing to do with our family. If we weren’t concerned about disrupting the ancestral energy, we would have installed electricity and surveillance cameras inside long ago!”
‘If you can uncover the truth, you’ll be our family’s savior. I can make an exception and let you marry Callum directly!”
It was clear this matter had troubled her for many years.
She was even willing to break ancestral rules–evidence of how desperately she wanted to know the truth!
Mrs. Forrester immediately sent someone to call the police.
Then she notified the other wealthy families who had once been close to them, as well as Manhattan’s elite social
circles.
Over the past few years, the Forrester family had moved most of their business operations overseas.
This was because clients across the country had become reluctant to work with them.
The shocking incidents of brides dying on their wedding nights had generated endless rumors. Former close business partners gradually distanced themselves, and friendly families avoided them, fearing association with what seemed like a cursed family.
Callum’s father had suffered a fatal heart attack from the stress, never recovering.
Within half an hour, the area around the chapel was surrounded by a dense crowd of people.
‘Vincent’s younger daughter says she knows the reason? How is that possible? No one has discovered the truth in all these years!”
“That’s right–the police have been here countless times without finding anything. They all ruled it suicide!”
Neighbors from the area joined in the discussion. Many had lived near the chapel but had moved away after the bride suicides created an atmosphere of fear.
If the truth finally came to light, perhaps their minds would be at ease.
“Melody, hurry and tell us what’s really going on?” Mrs. Forrester asked when most people had arrived.

I looked at the crowd before slowly beginning:
“The brides who married into your family over the years were completely different from each other, with little connection between them. So I believe the problem couldn’t have originated with them!”
“In other words, I don’t believe they committed suicide! The issue must lie with someone in the Forrester family!”
I stared pointedly at Callum and the others.
This angered Callum:
“That’s complete nonsense! Why would we be crazy enough to kill innocent women year after year?”
Callum’s anger didn’t seem feigned.
After all, their family troubles had spread across the country. Though the deaths were officially ruled suicides, being at the center of the storm had inevitably subjected them to criticism.
They absolutely would have preferred the brides survived!
“When I was inside just now…”
Just as I was about to say something, a blood–curdling scream tore from my throat.
I collapsed to the ground, my body contorting in horrifying, unnatural angles.
‘It’s happening again! This is exactly how the previous brides died!” Mrs. Forrester cried, her legs nearly giving out beneath her.
‘Quick! Restrain her and take her back! We absolutely cannot let her die too!”
Cold sweat broke out across Mrs. Forrester’s forehead as she frantically ordered her people to bind me.
But I used every ounce of my strength to shout, “No! I can’t go with them! They’re the ones who killed all those orides! I can’t be taken away!”
‘Help me!”
For a moment, chaos erupted among the crowd.
What’s going on? Who’s telling the truth?”
Could it really be the Forresters killing those brides? Does this prove they actually are keeping some evil spirit that needs young women as sacrifices?”
That seems unlikely, doesn’t it? If they truly had something to hide, why would they call us all here to witness the
ruth?”

The spectators argued heatedly, with no one able to convince the others.
The police wanted to help but had no legal grounds to take me into custody.
As the Forrester bride–to–be, I was technically under the family’s responsibility.
Just as the security guards were about to drag me away, I screamed toward the crowd, “Dad! Are you really going to watch me die? First Victoria, now me! Will there be anyone left in this family for you to care about?”
I shrieked desperately while pulling a concealed dagger from my waistband.
The security guards froze at the sight of the weapon, trying to calm me down.
I looked around the crowd with disappointment but couldn’t spot my father anywhere.
Yet I knew that he had once treasured both his daughters like precious jewels, calling us his life’s greatest pride and promising to love us forever.
After Victoria’s horrific death, I’d seen him weeping in the middle of the night, nearly blinding himself with tears.
I knew he must have his reasons, but now when I was in danger, why wouldn’t he appear?
