Chapter 7

Alexander felt as if a knife was twisting in his heart.

He refused to accept the result.

Fake?

Then what foolish things had he done to me for Annabelle all this time?

Taking away the only keepsake left by my mother.

Allowing Annabelle to hurt Bobo to death.

Even blindly supporting Annabelle, pushing me into the pond to drown.

Alexander couldn’t bear to think further. Fear slowly devoured his heart. He couldn’t help but cover his face and quietly

weep, belatedly realizing:

He might really lose me.

Choking back tears, he asked,

“Have you found any trace of Vivienne?”

His assistant hesitated,

“Ms. Kingsley was last seen at Ravenhill Airport. The airline said it was an international flight. As for whether she

transferred flights or her final destination…”

“We’ve completely lost track.”

Indeed, I didn’t stay in Seabrook after landing.

I traveled east, arriving in the capital, Wesbridge.

Finally, I met the one who could help me reclaim everything, my uncle Nathaniel.

“Uncle Nathaniel.”

I was never close with him, nor was my mother.

He was the black sheep of the Kingsley family. When my mother married my father for a business alliance, my uncle had

once promised to help my mother escape.

But in the end, my mother lacked the courage to break free from the family’s hold and married my father.

Later, I only heard snippets about him from my father. He had made a name for himself abroad, rising from company’s CEO to a powerful tycoon.

The Kingsley family’s fortunes had long since declined.

If it weren’t for my uncle, my father wouldn’t have allowed Annabelle and her mother to leave. So many years had passed. I

87 50%

didn’t know how much of this fading kinship could be drawn upon.

But I had to gamble because this was the fastest way to get everything back.

The middle-aged man before me looked serious, and when he saw me, he was a little stunned, as if slowly pulling himself away from long memories,

“Vivienne, you’re here.”

“Seeing you feels like seeing your mother. You look so much alike.”

I felt a weight lift, knowing my gamble had paid off.

Meanwhile, Annabelle had lost terribly.

Alexander had her brought to a closed, unfinished road, bound at the limbs like Bobo once was, unable to move.

“Alexander, what are you doing?”

“I know you’re angry I lied to you, but hear me out. I did all this for you. You love me too, and you’ve done so much for me.

Now that Vivienne’s gone, wouldn’t it be better if we were together?”

Alexander sneered,

“Love? You wish.”

“I told you many times, from start to finish, I only feel pity for you. But I never imagined even that pity was something you

faked your way into.”

“Tell the driver to start.”

The distant roar of a large truck grew louder.

Annabelle’s face turned pale as she looked at Alexander in disbelief,

“You’re going to kill me?”

Alexander glanced at her bound legs, sneering,

“That would be too kind.”

“You like being in a wheelchair, right? I’ll grant your wish and you’ll never get out of that chair again.”

Realizing Alexander’s intentions, Annabelle struggled fiercely.

Like Bobo bound all those times before.

She begged him with terror,

“Alexander, I know I was wrong. I won’t lie to you again. I can’t lose my legs!”

“I’m sorry, I apologize to you and to Vivienne. I’ll return the family estate to her if you want. Just please spare me. I’ll behave and go back abroad quietly. I won’t embarrass you anymore!”

*Alexander, please have mercy! I…”

The truck’s roaring grew closer, drowning out her cries. The black tires crushed Annabelle’s legs.

Only her screams echoed through the air.

“Ah-ah, my legs!”
