Chapter 17

So, when Tyron saw Tracie, his gaze was filled with undisguised hostility and disgust.

If Grover’s indifference to Tracie meant leaving her to handle things on her own, Tyron’s attitude was much more ag- gressive. He despised her, seeing her as a toxic, festering wound on Juliana. In his mind, she was nothing but a nui- sance, and he’d be happy to see her crushed underfoot.

But of course, in such a public setting, Tyron held himself back-he wasn’t about to make a scene.

The young woman next to him seemed vaguely familiar to Tracie, but she couldn’t place her.

The girl was about twenty, petite with short, messy hair, wearing a light blue overalls dress paired with light beige pointed heels. She looked both extravagant and quirky, with an aura of mischief.

Whether familiar or not, none of these people had anything to do with Tracie.

She didn’t expect Grover to take her side in a setting like this.

So, even though he had stood her up earlier, she wasn’t about to walk up to him and try to discuss anything.

She gave the group a brief glance, then walked away, still holding her glass of champagne.

Just as she turned, a taunting, playful voice called out behind her, “Oh, isn’t this the woman who tried to steal the sap- ecklace from Juliana last time? Wasn’t she arrested and thrown in jail? Who let her out and allowed her to

at a place like this?”

poke, the elegant, quirky young woman stepped directly in front of Tracie, grinning as if Tracie were just a aything for her to toy with.

“Ss, do I know you?” Tracie asked calmly.

“You really are forgetful, aren’t you?” the girl replied with a playful smile. “Not long ago, at the rock climbing club, Juliana threw a party, and you charged at her like a rabid dog, trying to grab the sapphire necklace off her neck. You didn’t get it, though, and ended up getting arrested by the police. I was standing right next to her when it happened-I was the one who called the cops on you. How could you have forgotten all that?”

It clicked.

That sapphire necklace was a wedding gift from her grandmother, who had given it to her when she married Grover. Her grandmother had said it was valuable, but Tracie hadn’t thought much of it. She just considered it a meaningful gift from her grandmother, so she kept it safe, even though she didn’t wear it much. It had always been stored in her makeup box.

Then, one day, it went missing.

For a while, Tracie even suspected the housemaids might have taken it, since none of them treated her seriously.

She searched the house thoroughly, but it wasn’t until Grover casually mentioned, “You never wear the necklace, so I gave it to Juliana. It looks better on her skin tone.”

That comment had infuriated Tracie.

The same day, Juliana was holding a party at the rock climbing club. Tracie had gone there and, without hesitation, grabbed the necklace from Juliana’s neck.

She had never confronted Juliana directly before. That was the first time.

But before she could even leave the club, the police arrested her. The next morning, Grover had to bail her out of the police station.

At the time, Tracie had no idea who had reported her. Now, she finally understood-it was this girl.

No wonder she looked familiar.

Tracie turned to look at Grover and Juliana sitting on the sofa.

Both of them wore cold, indifferent expressions, clearly unconcerned with what was happening.

“Anyone who can casually call someone a ‘rabid dog’ must be used to hanging out with them, don’t you think?” Tracie said with a light, almost teasing tone. “You’re so young, so bold, and kind of adorable, but I have other things to do, so I’ll leave you to it.” She gave Juliana a brief smile, then picked up her drink and walked away.
