Chapter 16
A few days later, Coral and Doc are needed at the hospital for an influx of
injuries due to rogue attacks. Mark, Eric, and I were away at the pack house
meeting with the rest of the guard not already patrolling the borders. The
meeting started and Alpha was sitting listening to the increased security
plans. He was having a good day and was giving logical input. I remember
thinking maybe he was finally getting himself together.
A few of the men were discussing some weird sounds and strange
happenings going on around the mountain border with the old empty cabin
settled on it. Eric and I looked at Mark as he glanced at the Alpha to see
how he responded.
Alpha perked up, “Do you think rogues could have moved into that old
cabin?”
“I don’t think a lot of the old timers swear it is haunted.” Mark tried
countering with the old legends of those forests and cabins being haunted.
“Still, maybe we should take a look and see if anything unusual is going on
out there.” Alpha started to get up as he finished his drink, “I have a light
schedule this afternoon, I could do it while the rest of you are patrolling the
rest of the borders.” He is walking around the room speaking more to
himself than us now, “I always liked it out there when I was younger, and
we would go camping.”
“Alpha, we can come down around and check things out on our way back
from patrolling the other side later. You never know what could be going on
out there and we can’t have our Alpha out there alone if there is trouble.”
Eric tried to tell him.
“I guess you are right Eric. What would I do without a beta, gamma, and
head warrior like you all? I know I have been a terrible Alpha lately. I want
to try and change that. I just don’t know why I am the way I am. Something
is wrong with my mind and my love dying has made it so much worse. Why
can none of the women I love want me back and give me what I need?”
Alpha Thomas sounds so forlorn, but it is just an act. Later today he will be
back to normal and swearing because Katia died too early for him.
According to him, she should have been stronger and lasted longer.
What a piece of crap. Goddess, how could he have been an Alpha? How
could the goddess have seen fit to give him a fated mate and then let a
young girl fall into his grasp? Alpha has something up his sleeve. I am sure
of it. His little speech just does not sit right with me. Our little Luna needs
to be extra careful today. The three of us share another glance along with
some of the other warriors who have joined our little pack over the last year.
Kelp links Katia, letting her know to stay inside and be extra careful. There
was some talk of strange things going on and noises in the abandoned cabin
and it had caught Alpha Thomas’ curiosity.
I feel bad because she is there alone and I know she is terrified the Alpha
will find her alive and make her come back to serve her sentence. Hopefully
she listens and stays hidden in the area we walled to look like a regular
wall, but is actually a hidden room.
“Alright everyone, let’s head out. Alpha, you will receive a report of any
findings during our patrol like normal. If something important or an
emergency should arise, we will let you know immediately.” We all move
towards the door and Mark reiterates, “We will check the haunted forest and
cabin on the way back, Thomas. I am sure it is nothing. Rogues are not that
brave.”
However, what we failed to realize was our Alpha was that stupid and
suspicious of us all. Looking back, I should have seen the signs that he was
not swallowing the haunted story. He really thought rogues had moved into
that cabin on his pack property and were living right under his nose. I
would have loved to have been there to see how everything unfolded into
what I rode up on later that evening. I don’t think I will ever laugh that hard
again. Any of us, for that matter.
Some of the warriors, Eric, Kelp, and I, were riding towards the forest and
the cabin, when we suddenly heard what sounded like moaning or
something resembling moaning and screaming. We jumped down,
abandoning our horses, shifting into our wolves and took off for the
clearing where the cabin was. Our little Luna must be terrified of whatever
is going on. Maybe it is a rogue attack. Usually, they are pretty quiet during
attacks though. They try to get killed and regroup for the next attack until
they weaken the pack enough to take over.
The guys are racing as fast as they can. All of them chattering through the
link. “What the hell is that noise?” “Who is making that noise?” “Why is
Katia not linking any of us?”
“Kelp, can you feel anything from the Luna?”
“Mark, I swear it feels like she is laughing and giggling. Like she is having
the time of her life.” I can feel the mental head scratch he is giving himself.
“She is not afraid at all. Earlier, I felt some fear from her but it quickly
turned into of an excitement of sorts.”
“That’s odd. Keep an eye on her. If anything changes, let me know we are
almost there.” Suddenly I skidded to a halt, not registering what I was
seeing.
Everyone else almost skidded right into me. “Goddess Mark, give some
warning would ya?” Shifting back to my human side, I just kept staring,
“Are you seeing and hearing what I am?”
The rest shifted back and began giggling, then out right laughing like
hyenas at our big bad Alpha running around the clearing chased by what
looked to be our tiny little Luna in an oversized white long-sleeved shirt,
arms flailing around, and making some awful noise from her throat.
Alpha is screaming his head off. Repeating don’t kill me. I didn’t mean to
kill you. I wanted you as my chosen mate. Why have you come back to
haunt me? Is my fated coming back also? Please don’t kill me. Meanwhile,
she keeps chasing him around. Every time he gets close enough to the tree
line to escape, she picks up her speed and chases him back. She sounds like
she is trying to say something while moaning. However, it is so guttural
sounding from the damage the Alpha did to her throat in the past, no one
can quite make out what she is trying to say.
She had rubbed something all over her face, hands, and legs, making them
whiter than normal with what looked like blood running down from her
head and upper legs. Alpha is now screaming how sorry he is. How he
rescued her from those terrible people who called her daughter. If she had
listened and followed his instructions, she would still be alive instead of
haunting this forest and now him.
Our little ghost halts and just stands there watching him. He stays far away
from her and just stares back at her.
“Is this where they laid you to rest?” He looked around the clearing for a
grave as he asked her that. “Did I interrupt your eternal sleep?”
She looked at him while moving her head side to side as if not
understanding what he was asking.
“If I could take it back I would. I would not kill you so quickly. I would
have given you more time to learn your place. You and your wolf attacked
me so you could never be my Luna, but I could have fucked you for a long
time. Maybe even made your living arrangements more comfortable with
time.
Little ghost obviously did not like what he had to say. She contorted her
face and let her wolf snout grow out a bit while trying to scream something
at Alpha Thomas. The screams sounded like a banshee shrieking this time
and he took off running for the trees and us
