Chapter 11
Liam frowned upon hearing Jacklyn’s words.
Why was her stomach aching after falling into the water?
Without hesitating, he picked Jacklyn up and rushed her to the hospital.
Inside the hospital, the scent of antiseptic filled the air. Liam sat in a corner, waiting.
As he recalled Jacklyn’s pained expression, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of concern.
Half an hour later, the door to the consulting room opened, and the doctor walked out.
Liam immediately stood and asked, “How’s she doing, doctor?“.
“The patient is pregnant. She should avoid crowded places, the doctor replied, frowning as he removed his mask.
Liam stood frozen in place.
Jacklyn was pregnant?
The doctor, noticing his confusion, continued, “You young people are so careless. You don’t even know your girlfriend’s pregnant, and you let her fall into the water. You need to pay more attention and take better care of her.”
As Liam regained his composure and was about to clarify that he wasn’t her boyfriend, the doctor continued, ” She’s five weeks pregnant. You’ll need to keep a close eye on her. I know you’re young and like to have fun, but you’re going to be a father now. You can’t afford to be so careless.”
Seeing how engrossed the doctor was in giving his lecture, Liam didn’t want to interrupt him. He waited until the doctor finished before finally stepping into the ward.
Jacklyn lay on the bed, pale and with cracked lips, looking extremely weak. She seemed to have dozed off.
But her sleep was always light. At the faintest sound, her eyes slowly fluttered open.
When she saw Liam’s face, she snapped to attention and instinctively pressed her hand over her stomach.
Before she passed out, she had felt a sharp pain in her abdomen, as if the tiny life inside her was slipping away.
Liam, sensing her distress, reassured her, “Don’t worry. The baby’s fine.”
Jacklyn let out a sigh of relief.
Then, a thought crossed her mind. Had Liam known she was pregnant?
Embarrassed, she gave a weak smile. “Sorry for making you see this.”
Liam’s expression turned serious. “What’s going on between you and Eugene? You fell into the water, and he didn’t even save you. Instead, he rushed to save another woman. You’re his wife, and you’re pregnant.”
Jacklyn froze. She hadn’t expected him to ask so directly, and the question caught her off guard.
She glanced up at the ceiling and replied calmly, “Penelope’s carrying his child. Of course, he’s worried about her.

For three years, she hadn’t been pregnant. Eugene never said anything, but Jacklyn could tell he was frustrated.
With Penelope’s pregnancy, Eugene was overjoyed, so he wouldn’t let anything happen to the baby.

Liam was surprised.
His eyes darkened as he asked, “Then, why don’t you leave him? It would be better for you and your baby.”
Jacklyn nodded, already expecting this suggestion. “I understand what you’re saying. I will leave. But not right now.”
Her eyes suddenly hardened.
“I need to take back what’s mine and make sure I leave without any loose ends. Only then will my baby and I be safe.”
She knew Eugene’s temperament better than anyone. He seemed so polite and gentle on the surface, but in truth, he was extreme. He would never let her go without a fight.
Liam stayed silent for a few seconds, then looked at her again. “How confident are you?”
Jacklyn frowned, not answering right away.
30%? Maybe 20%? Maybe not even 10%.
If Eugene found out she was gone, he would use everything he had to track her down.
But she had to leave him.
Jacklyn clenched the fabric of her clothes and gritted her teeth.
“Don’t worry. I’ll be your best ally,” Liam said gently.
