The moment Jacklyn realized Gloria had misunderstood, she quickly waved her hands in protest. “He’s not-”
“Don’t assume childbirth is solely a woman’s responsibility,” Gloria cut her off, finishing Jacklyn’s paperwork before shifting to routine prenatal questions.
Liam stayed silent at first, lingering off to the side. Finally, he asked casually, “Dr. Barlow, how is she? Is everything okay?”
Gloria scanned Jacklyn’s report, her expression tightening. Your wife’s condition isn’t ideal. She’s still in her first trimester and needs plenty of rest. Avoid taking her to crowded places.
“Keep her diet light–nothing heavy or greasy. She doesn’t need rich supplements right now, just proper nutrition.”
As Liam heard that Jacklyn wasn’t doing well, his face darkened, a flicker of unease flashing in his eyes. “Anything she shouldn’t eat?”
Noticing his tension, Gloria chuckled. “Young man, I can tell you’re a first–time father. Relax. Right now, it’s about keeping the mother stress–free. Your wife’s instability likely comes from a recent shock. Just keep an eye on her, and if anything changes, bring her in right away.”
Only then did Liam’s expression soften.
Jacklyn didn’t realize she’d gone the entire prenatal checkup without speaking a word until she stepped out of the
exam room.
Her eyes found Liam. “I’m fine. Dr. Barlow just reminded me to monitor my condition. That’s all.”
Liam’s voice was steady, without a trace of the earlier tension from the exam room. “Dr. Barlow said you need to stay relaxed. If anything happens, call me. I’ll help.”
Jacklyn turned her face away, murmuring, “I can’t keep bothering you.”
He’d already done too much.
Liam’s gaze locked onto hers. “Jacklyn, you could never be a bother.”
The words sent a flutter through her, scattering her thoughts.
Was he really…
Before she could follow the thread, Liam guided her to the car. They arrived at a restaurant, its interior elegantly decorated, the air humming with soft music that loosened the knot in her chest.
“Why is there no one else—”
Before Jacklyn could finish, a voice called out from across the room, “Mr. Robertson, you’re here! Everything’s prepped, just waiting for you to work your magic!”
Jacklyn turned toward the voice and found a handsome young man striding toward them. “I’m Jerry Reeve, the manager here.”
He extended his hand, and Jacklyn shook it with a polite smile.
“I’ll be right back.”
Liam shot Jerry a look before disappearing into the kitchen.

“Mr. Robertson reserved the entire place just for you today he murmured, his voice rich with playful gossip.
Jacklyn’s fingers tightened around her water glass. So, that was why it was empty.
The realization of Liam’s attentiveness left her momentarily adrift. How long had it been since someone noticed. her preferences so carefully?
“You’re the first woman he’s ever brought here!” Jerry added, smirking.
The first woman?
A sudden warmth prickled at Jacklyn’s ears. She took a deliberate sip of water, willing the strange flutter in her chest to still.
Soon, the dishes arrived.
Jacklyn’s eyes widened. “You made all of this?”
Liam–the golden heir of the illustrious Robertsons, the man born with a silver spoon–actually cooked?
“Dr. Barlow mentioned your lack of appetite, so I made a few light, homemade dishes. Give them a try.”
She nodded slowly. “I had no idea you could cook.”
Liam smirked. “There’s a lot about me worth knowing.”
Her gaze flicked up and locked with his by accident. Flustered, she stabbed a bite with her fork. “It’s not bad!”
But the moment the flavor hit her tongue, nausea surged. She bolted for the restroom.
“Are you okay?” Liam took in her pallor and rushed to steady her as she emerged, his brows furrowing. “Was my cooking that bad? I didn’t think it was inedible…”
His deadpan tone startled a laugh out of her. It wasn’t the food–it was the morning sickness.
But as her laughter faded, an unexpected pang of sadness tightened her chest. Liam was the first person in a long time who made her feel light.
After dinner, he drove her back to Lloyd Manor. The moment Jacklyn stepped out of the car, a sharp voice sliced through the air.
“Liam!”
