Chapter 5 Questioning Met

From a distance, the young girl could be seen nestled in the arms of the young man. It was very much like at heartwarming scene.
However, the words that Zephyr spoke into Sadie’s ears were dangerously threatening. “Miss Francis, if I ever see you using these underhanded tactics in the Gates Estate, I assure you that I will turn you into another lamp.”
Sadie caught a chill on a cold night and had been feeling under the weather for a couple of days.
Katy had taken care of her, making sure she drank her medicine. She then gently touched Sadie’s forehead and said. “You’re not feverish anymore,”
She then put away the bowl. “By the way, Miss Sadie, the Francis family just sent someone over with at message for you. They’ve made their decision. Mr. Adonis and Miss Daisy will be the ones attending Cranesong Academy”
Sadie was not surprised by this outcome.
She glanced at the dim sky outside and suddenly asked, “Did Alexander leave the house today?”
“Yes. Mr. Alexander went to dine at Aureum Delicacies!”
Sadie rolled out of bed. “Let’s go, too.”
She was determined to save Alexander’s life.
In the previous life, something happened to Alexander on this very day.
Though he was adept at archery and horseback riding, his life took a tragic turn when the inn collapsed, leaving both his legs crushed. In the end, he was bound to a wheelchair for the rest of his life.
From that point on, the once sunny and vibrant young man became introverted and gloomy.
Daisy was often at odds with him, frequently using his legs as a source of amusement, sharing jokes about it with her three older brothers at home. On the day the inn collapsed, it just so happened that Sadie was across the street, buying calligraphy supplies for Adonis. Hence, she had a vivid memory of the incident.
Sadie had no intentions of scheming for wealth and power at the Gates Estate.
However, if she had the chance to become a benefactor to the Gates family, she wouldn’t refuse.
The young girl hurriedly arrived at Aureum Delicacies in a carriage.
The innkeeper led her into a private room, where Alexander was seated among a group of officials sons. Slightly tipsy, he asked, “What brings you here?”
“I just happened to be passing by and heard you were here, so I thought I’d drop in for a visit.
Alexander chuckled. “Who do you think you are? Listen up, Sadie. Don’t even think about fighting me for the family wealth…
Sadie really wanted to roll her eyes.
She casually mentioned, “I heard that Aureum Delicacies has been around for a century.

“That’s right! What’s up. Sadie? You’re not trying to swindle me into treating you to a meal, are you? Don’t
even-
Sadie interrupted his rambling. “It rained for twenty days last month. Many of the old wooden buildings in. Dwarven City, neglected for years, swelled and collapsed in the rainfall. I wonder if Aureum Delicacies conduct monthly maintenance.”
The room fell silent for a moment.
The innkeeper broke out in a cold sweat and stammered. “Uh.
Sadie looked up at the crossbeam. “Does it seem a bit crooked to you, too
Suddenly, a clap of thunder echoed from outside the window
Everyone was given quite a start, and even Alexander sobered up a bit from his drunken state.
He looked at the innkeeper. “When was the last maintenance?”
The innkeeper stammered, “Three… Three years ago…”
Their business was doing so well, and they’d lose a lot of money if they closed for just one day.
Although Alexander was fond of fun and games, he knew where to draw the line when it came to serious
matters.
He flipped the table abruptly. “Three years ago?”
Alexander was a nobleman. The innkeeper knew he was in the wrong and didn’t dare to reprimand him. All he could do was to hastily clear out the inn and immediately arrange for people to start investigating and repairing.
Not long after everyone had left, the century–old inn collapsed amidst the rain,
Alexander stood across the street, blankly watching the dust rise.
Had it not been for Sadie’s warning. I would probably be buried there by now…
Alexander’s friends were also left dumbfounded.
After an indeterminate amount of time, they swallowed nervously before speaking. “Alexander, did you say that Miss Francis is your stepsister brought to the Gates family by your stepmother?”
And so, from that day forward. Alexander and all his friends took a liking to Sadie.
The son of the Kaufman family said, “My family exclusively supplies silk brocade to the imperial merchant. Sadie, I’ll send you a cart full tomorrow! You’re always dressed so simply, so I’ll send you more vibrant colors!”
The son of the Hawk family chimed in. “My family is in the jade business. We’ve just acquired a whole piece of top-grade jadeite. I’ll have my mother personally design a set of jadeite accessories for you!”
“Get lost!” Alexander chased them away with a flurry of punches and kicks.
At last, there was peace. Alexander cleared his throat lightly and said, “Sadie, I owe you one this time. ! initially thought you were just a vain young girl. I didn’t expect you to have such a kind heart.”

“Anyway, I owe you a favor!” Alexander patted his chest in a show of loyalty. “Sarlic, I now declare that I officially welcome you into the Gates family! From now on, you’re under my protection!”
The young lad seemed both defiant and sincere.
It was akin to a faithful dog. Once it was given a bone, it would gemtinely treat its benefactor well.
Upon their return to the Gates Estate, Talulla was quickly informed about the incident at Aureum Delicacies. Without delay, she summoned the duo to Pine Manor.
Alexander, acting as if he were in a play, strode with a vigorous gait, dramatizing every move and expression for the old dowager to witness. “Just as I stepped out of Aureum Delicacies, I heard the sound of a beam collapsing behind me! Sadie then shouted that there were still people inside. Then I turned around. Guess what? I saw a wailing three–year–old child! In a flash, with a swift move, I managed to rescue him……
Sadie said. “Honestly, I was just passing by the inn. I dropped a casual warning to the innkeeper. We had stepped outside when the inn collapsed. Thankfully, it was a close call, and no one was hurt.”
Alexander was exasperated. “Sadie, you’re too boring!”
Talulla held Sadie’s hand tightly, expressing her heartfelt gratitude. “We owe you so much this time! It was you who saved Alexander’s life. From now on, you are a benefactor to the Gates family! I truly don’t know how to thank you…
Sadie earnestly said, “Grandmother, you’re making too much of it. You just told me last time that we are family. And since we’re family, there’s no need to be so formal.”
When Talulla heard this, her gaze toward Sadie grew increasingly fond. She held her hand tightly, treating her as if she were her own granddaughter.
The spring rain was gentle, and the dusk deeply settled.
After helping Talulla change her clothes, Agnes left the room. Meanwhile, Alexander, brimming with enthusiasm, headed to the small kitchen to find something to eat.
The maids began to light the lamps, casting a warm, tangerine glow that illuminated a young man seated beneath the wooden carved window. Shadows crept into the corners, outlining the lean, strong figure of the youth in the rainy twilight, highlighting an air of aloof elegance about him.
It was Zephyr.
He flipped a page of his book, not bothering to look up. His voice held a hint of amusement. “Miss Francis, how did you come to know that Aureum Delicacies hasn’t been renovated for three years?”
Sadie responded, “I didn’t realize it at the time. I just noticed that the crossbeam seemed a bit crooked, and it reminded me of the wooden building that collapsed last month, so I decided to ask the innkeeper about
“Miss Francis, you have quite the keen eye, noticing that the beam was crooked. So many people visited Aureum Delicacies. Why were you the only one to notice?”
Sadie casually pinched the corner of her sleeve.
She asked, “Are you questioning me, Lord Zephyr?”
