Chapter 2

Marcus went white as a sheet, forcing out this fake-ass smile.

“Oh Mr. Harrington, you’re kidding, right? Someone like me? I’d never be important enough to talk to you!”

Dominic didn’t think twice about it. He just walked out.

He was too busy rushing off to save Lily to give a damn about some random detail like that.

Thing is, his gut was right. He had talked to Marcus before.

Three days ago, when Marcus kidnapped me, he’d called Dominic asking for fifty grand ransom.

Dominic had heard his voice.

You were so close, Dominic.

So damn close to figuring out that the guys who sold me and the guys who grabbed me were the same people.

Just that close to noticing-

That the body nobody gave a shit about on that table…

That was me.

Lily’s birthday was the same day I got kidnapped.

While I was getting messed with in that old abandoned factory, Dominic was shooting off fireworks down by the river for Lily.

Millions of dollars worth of professional-grade fireworks, just because Lily liked shiny things.

Marcus called him up, and I could hear Dominic flirting with Lily in the background.

He was saying, “You like it, baby? If you want, we can do this again next time. Money’s no problem-I just want you happy.”

Marcus yelled into the phone, “Bring fifty grand! Or we’re gonna hurt Nora Shirley!”

When he heard my name, Dominic just laughed even harder.

He goes, “If you actually manage to kill her, come find me for a reward,” and hung up.

I felt like I was dying inside. Didn’t even want to fight anymore.

Marcus lost his shit and slapped me so hard my face went sideways.

“Fucking worthless bitch! Not even worth fifty grand!”

“Boys, since Dominic won’t pay up, let’s give his fiancée a little welcome party!”

Looking around, every single one of them wanted to tear me apart.

My body was shaking from pure terror, but inside? I was going numb.

Again. Dominic threw me away again.

This time, Lily didn’t even have to lift a finger. She beat me without even trying.

These psychos didn’t get their money, so they took it out on me instead.

They started betting on how long I’d last. Some said an hour, others said a day.

Chapter 2

Finally, early morning on the second day, I died.

If a coroner ever did an autopsy on me, they’d just scratch their heads trying to figure out what really killed me.

Every wound went down to the bone. From head to toe, there wasn’t a single piece of skin left intact.

I followed Dominic to the hospital.

He handed over the kidney he’d carved out of me to the doctors, his voice ice cold. “If anything goes wrong in that surgery, I’m burning this whole hospital down.”

The doctors were shaking so hard they could barely speak. They rushed off to prep everything.

Dominic headed for the patient room to see Lily, but someone blocked his path.

It was his best friend, Jake Morris-the only person who ever gave a damn about me.

Jake grabbed Dominic’s shoulder. “Dominic, what the hell is wrong with you? Have you ever been this good to your own fiancée?”

Dominic shoved his hand away. “Nora’s doing just fine!”

Seeing Dominic’s reaction, Jake let out this long, tired sigh.

“After all these years, you still can’t let it go? You two used to love each other so much…”

“But she killed my sister! MY ONLY SISTER!!”
