Chapter 56
Chapter 56
Mathieu doesn’t react to his presence–he just glares at me and heads back into the villa with fast, angry steps.
Alexander lets go of my hand. I try to calm myself, but it’s not easy–I’m tense.
“I suppose you heard everything.”
“Just the part where you’re dying for me to screw you every way possible.”
His voice is neither arrogant nor mocking.
A week without seeing him, and now here he is, right after hearing I’m desperate for him to fuck me. Great.
“I hope you’re proud of yourself.”
He looks at me, confused.
“You hired Mathieu just to mess things up, right? Well done.”
I turn to leave, but he grabs my wrist and forces me to face him. The touch of his skin against mine is electric.
Our eyes lock, and it’s like he turns me into stone with just his gaze.
His face is hidden behind the black–and–gray Venetian mask he’s wearing, but I’d recognize him anywhere.
“I didn’t hire Mathieu to hurt you.”
He seems sincere, but I don’t forget he’s a master manipulator.
“He has no skills for the job you just gave him.”
“He’s more qualified than half the computer science grads out there.”
I know he’s right, and it burns my throat.
“You’re putting his life at risk.”

“Why do you care so much about him? I’m surprised you two still talk after he found out your little stunt in prison was just an infiltration to get to me.
“How do you know he knows the truth?”
“The fight you just had tells me he knows enough to yell at you even though he knows you have a knife in your cleavage.”
Of course, he had to look down my cleavage.
“If anything happens to Mathieu…”
“You’ll kill me? Burn my balls off, maybe? I saw how much you love fire.”
He’s clearly referring to Sergio.
I sigh. Better change the subject.

Chapter 56
“I didn’t think you’d show up to this party.”
“I didn’t think you would either, especially not with a mask.”
“And why’s that?”
He gives me a half–smile that deepens his dimples. My heart twists, but I pretend to be indifferent.
“You’re more the type to ignore rules, you know?”
“A bit like you, you mean?”
“If you say so.”
He releases my wrist. I turn to head back into the villa when he calls out:
“Wait.”
“What?”
‘Let’s go to your
room.”
I think I just choked on air.
‘Excuse me? What did you just say?”
‘I said I want to go to your room.”
He’s actually serious!
‘Go fu-”
He cuts me off by placing his hand over my mouth. He gives me a childlike smile–so innocent you’d forget he’s a dangerous criminal.
‘I have something that belongs to you, and I only want to give it to you in your room.”
I look at him suspiciously. He looks serious, and it doesn’t feel like a seduction move. What could he have that belongs to me? I admit–he’s piqued my curiosity.
“Why not give it to me here?”
“Because I don’t want to.”
“You’ll miss the rest of Assar’s party.”
“Assar will understand. He’s a good man.”
He seems to know him and even respect him.
I can’t just leave the party like that–not for my father or Mathieu. And at the same time, I think my conversation with Mathieu can wait until tomorrow to avoid another blow–up. As for my father, he can go fuck himself. He’s probably spending the night with the women he met. My sudden disappearance won’t even alarm him.
My curiosity will be the death of me.

Chapter 56
“We’re taking my car.”
“It was planned that we’d take your car, mine would draw too much attention. Would be a shame if something happened to one of those collector’s items.”
I hold back from making that comment and head to the driver’s side, but he steps in and takes my spot.
“I’m driving.”
I’m left standing there like an idiot.
I sit in the passenger seat. I don’t have the energy to argue with anyone else tonight. He takes off his mask. I sigh and do the
same.
“Park a few meters from the villa so I can tell the guards to leave, and you can come in through the main entrance.”
“Hakim is there.”
That sounds more like a statement.
“How do you know that? Are you spying on our villa?”
“Don’t be stupid. I’m just being cautious.”
“What’s your plan to avoid getting caught?”
“Let me remind you, I’m not against being seen.”
He gives me a small, crooked smile as I raise my eyebrows.
“I’ll park a few meters from your place. You’ll get out and go inside your fortress like nothing happened. Then, you’ll open your bedroom window. I’ll climb up my buddy the tree.”
“I don’t get why you like climbing that tree so much.”
“The adrenaline.”
I don’t reply, and he speeds off in my car.
