“What did you say…?” Arthur’s face was filled with shock.
Eleanor was equally disbelieving, urgently questioning Leo. “Leo, is what Skylar saying true?”
Leo’s face was a mask of panic. He opened his mouth, stammering a lie, “Skylar, you misunderstood. This child isn’t mine. I was just being kind and signed for Chloe.”
“Don’t lie to me anymore!” I pulled out a DNA report, a sneer on my face. “I’ve had it
tested. This is *your* and Chloe Meng’s bastard child!”
At that, the entire room erupted in chaos.
Leo’s face was ashen, his lips trembling violently. He stammered, “Skylar, let me explain…”
“Explain?” I scoffed. “Leo, what more do you have to explain? Five years of marriage. Because you said you didn’t want children, I consistently used birth control, never a single slip–up. Yet you went behind my back and got another woman pregnant. How utterly ridiculous!”
“I…” He was speechless, his face flushed with mortification.
Arthur and Eleanor were too stunned to speak.
Chloe unconsciously raised a hand, covering her mouth with a tell–tale cough, a guilty look in her eyes.
The relatives and friends looked on as if watching a sensational play, pointing fingers and whispering about Leo and Chloe.
Arthur, his face mortified, leaned into my ear and pleaded in a low voice, “Skylar, there must be some misunderstanding here. Don’t air our dirty laundry in public. Let’s discuss all this when we get home, behind closed doors.”

“No need to discuss anything!” I slammed a divorce agreement onto the table, looking at Leo, and spoke in a cold, clear voice. “Leo, let’s get a divorce!”
“Divorce?”
Leo looked bewildered for a moment, staring blankly at the divorce agreement in my hand. Then, he suddenly grabbed my arm, agitated. “Skylar, you’re kidding, right? It’s just a small thing, why are you suddenly talking about divorce? I won’t divorce! I can explain…”
“Explain what?!” I shook off his hand, a cold laugh escaping me. “Explain how your heart
suddenly softened when you saw Chloe bloody and bruised after I hit her? Or explain how
you regret not getting together with her sooner, and how for the rest of your life, you’d give her everything but the title?”
Leo looked as if he’d been struck by lightning. “Skylar, you heard all that…
“Yes, I heard it all.” I choked back my grief, a self–deprecating smile on my face. “Leo, if I
hadn’t seen it with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears, I would never have believed that you, who once loved me so deeply, would secretly carry on with someone else. All those years of deep affection, those vows of eternal love, they’ve all become a complete
joke!
“This marriage, it’s over!”
I threw the divorce agreement at him and resolutely turned to leave. Five years of
marriage, eight years together. Let it all end right here, right now.
