Chapter 14
“Jackson, what are you saying… you don’t love me?” Lily’s voice suddenly rose in pitch, the color draining from her face. “That’s impossible! You clearly…”
“I apologize for giving you the wrong impression.” Jackson’s voice was so calm it bordered on cruel. “Back then, too many people were pursuing me, and I needed a shield.”
A shield?!
In that moment, she went deathly pale.
He paused before continuing: “As compensation, I’ve been transferring money to your account annually. I thought you understood this was merely a transaction.”
‘Later, when you took that car accident for me and your health deteriorated, I catered to your every whim.” His gaze fell steadily on her ashen face. “Beyond that, there’s nothing more.”
The crowd erupted in murmurs.
The previously admiring glances instantly transformed into mockery and disdain, whispers washing over Lily like
a tidal wave.
‘I knew it. How could someone of Mr. Blackwell’s status possibly be interested in her…”
‘Acting like it was real all this time, when she was just delusional.”
‘Mr. Blackwell is famously untouchable–even that Oscar–winning actress who stripped naked in his bed got thrown
out. Who does she think she is?”
‘Heard her mother was a homewrecker. Like mother, like daughter–always trying to climb above her station.”
Each whispered comment struck Lily like a knife.
She valued her reputation above all else. This confession had been meticulously planned for three months, with nvitations to every influential person in their circle, all to ensure her grand entrance as the future Mrs. Blackwell.
But now…
She trembled violently, her nails digging into her palms.
If Jackson didn’t love her, then who did he love?
A terrifying thought surfaced: Could it be… Scarlett?
The notion nearly drove her mad.

Chapter 14
Lily violently shook her head, refusing to believe it was possible.
The next moment, Jackson had already turned to leave.
C
“Jackson Blackwell!” She grabbed his sleeve with the last shred of her dignity. “All these years, did you truly… never have even a moment of genuine feeling for me?”
“Yes.” Jackson withdrew his hand. “Never.”
Those two letters pierced Lily’s heart like a blade. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor, her carefully styled hair falling in disarray, makeup streaked with tears.
Jackson left the ballroom without a backward glance, striding toward the waiting luxury car.
His assistant had already prepared everything he’d requested.
ઃ
“Mr. Blackwell, I’ve gathered everything,” his assistant handed over the gift boxes. “The sapphire brooch, and the cake from Miss Devereaux’s favorite patisserie.”
Jackson took out his phone and sent Scarlett a message: [Come to my Beacon Hill mansion. I have something for you.]
No response.
He called her again, but the phone remained switched off.
His brow furrowed as he continued typing: [Still angry?]
[I sent you to detention because you truly crossed the line, and I needed to give Lily some closure.]
[But I arranged everything–not a hair on your head was harmed.]
[As for those injuries you faked afterward to make me feel guilty when you collapsed at the hospital, I played along,
didn’t I?]
His fingers hovered over the screen momentarily before adding:
[About that necklace. I didn’t lend you the money because you had the wrong item–your mother’s real heirloom
was in Sweden. The one in the auction was just a replica.]
[I’ve secured the authentic piece now.]
Message after message went out, yet they all disappeared into silence.
Jackson rubbed his temples and sent one final text: [You burned down the villa. If that’s not enough to satisfy your
anger, burn another one?]
After a long wait, the phone remained disturbingly quiet.

His patience finally exhausted, Jackson dialed Richard Devereaux directly: “Is Scarlett home? Put her on the phone.”
On the other end, Richard’s voice was filled with surprise: “Jackson, don’t you know? Scarlett… has already been
married off to Miami!”
