Chapter 6
When Scarlett next awoke, it was to a nurse’s alarmed voice:
“Why is no one monitoring her? The IV line has blood backflow! This could have been dangerous!” the nurse exclaimed worriedly.
Scarlett raised her hand slightly, noticing her hand had swollen significantly. Checking her phone, she realized seven hours had passed.
And Jackson had never returned.
“Miss, where’s your handsome boyfriend?” the nurse asked while changing the medication. “It’s dangerous to leave an IV unattended. That was a close call.”

Scarlett’s lips twitched into a bitter smile. “He’s not my boyfriend.”
She slowly made her way back to her room, supporting herself against the wall. The corridor buzzed with gossip that pierced her ears like needles:
“That Bennett girl is so lucky! Her stepfather adores her, and she has that drop–dead gorgeous boyfriend too!”
“I heard her boyfriend not only reserved the entire VIP floor but also flew in foreign specialists for consultation. He hasn’t left her side for a whole day! Both her stepfather and boyfriend treat her like a princess–Miss Bennett must have saved the galaxy in her past life…”
Scarlett found herself unconsciously walking toward Lily’s hospital room.
Through the half–open door, she saw Jackson bending over to adjust Lily’s IV drip rate, his long fingers carefully
urning the regulator.
Her father sat beside the bed, peeling an apple for Lily. The peel came off in one continuous spiral, and he fed pieces of the fruit directly into Lily’s mouth.
Scarlett suddenly found it difficult to breathe.
Tears fell unexpectedly, burning her cheeks.
She quickly wiped them away.
“Scarlett,” she whispered to herself in the empty corridor, “who are you crying for? No one cares. Don’t you dare
cry!”
As she turned to leave, she straightened her back and walked quickly, steadily.
Only her tightly clenched palms, dotted with blood where her nails broke skin, betrayed her pain.

Chapter 6
For the next few days, Jackson never appeared.
It wasn’t until her discharge day that Scarlett spotted the familiar black Maybach waiting outside the hospital.
The window lowered, revealing Jackson’s sharply defined profile.
“Get in,” he said, his voice as cool as ever.
Scarlett turned and walked away.
“Do you want me to take you right here with everyone watching?” he threatened quietly.
Those words stopped Scarlett in her tracks.
She couldn’t believe he would say something like that. In the past, when he was “disciplining” her, he often threatened her this way, and she had thought it was just part of their dynamic. But now that his precious Lily was back, how dare he still treat her this way?
She gritted her teeth and got into the car.
Jackson handed her an auction catalog. “You seemed upset lately. Didn’t you always enjoy shopping? I’m taking you
to an auction today.”
Scarlett was about to refuse when she flipped to a page that made her pupils contract-
It was her mother’s pearl necklace!
After Victoria moved in, she had convinced Scarlett’s father to clear out all of her mother’s belongings, claiming they gave her nightmares.
Despite Scarlett’s desperate pleas, her father had coldly stated, “She’s dead. Keeping her things is bad luck.”
She never expected to encounter her mother’s beloved necklace here, of all places.
Scarlett clutched the catalog so tightly it crumpled in her palm.
With trembling hands, she took out her phone and quickly messaged her private attorney: [Sell ALL the dowry items in my bank safety deposit box IMMEDIATELY!]
For this necklace, she would go to her marriage without a dowry and face ridicule. She didn’t care.
The auction hall was opulent and gleaming with gold.
As Scarlett followed Jackson into the VIP section, she immediately spotted Lily seated in the reserved area.
Dressed in a flowing white dress, Lily flashed a sweet smile in their direction,
“Sis!” Lily affectionately linked her arm through Scarlett’s. “I mentioned wanting to apologize to you at the auction,

and Jackson actually brought you! How thoughtful of him.” She winked. “You two are so close.”
Scarlett’s entire body stiffened.
She slowly turned to look at Jackson.
He was examining the auction catalog, his profile sculpted and handsome in the ambient lighting, but he didn’t spare her even a glance.
So that was it,
He hadn’t brought her here because he noticed her mood, not to cheer her up.
He had simply brought her along as a prop because Lily wanted to “apologize.”
But strangely, the expected pain didn’t come.
Scarlett only felt a hollow emptiness in her chest, as if a piece had been carved out, yet no blood remained to flow from the wound.
