Chapter 38
After leaving Lloyd Manor, Eugene immediately dialed Penelope’s number.
“Gene, I’ve been listening to you, staying quietly at home. didn’t go anywhere,” Penelope said softly, rubbing her belly.
“Looks like the necklace really works. I feel clear–headed today, and no belly pain, either. I just miss you so much, Gene. Can you come see me today?”
Eugene grew a little impatient. “Maybe not at home. Come find me at the hotel.”
He sent her his location.
Penelope’s excitement surged. Without hesitation, she agreed.
“Bring the gemstone necklace with you when you come,” Eugene said.
At the hotel, Penelope sat on Eugene’s lap. “Gene, take off your clothes. It’s so hot here.”
Her hands started wandering, and her eyes were full of seduction. The air grew thick with desire.
Faced with such a passionate and alluring woman, Eugene could no longer hold back. He pulled her into his arms, and they tumbled onto the bed.
After their heated entanglement, night had fallen.
Penelope lay against Eugene’s broad chest, softly whining, Gene, you should be gentler. I can’t even move now!”
“Isn’t this what you wanted?” Eugene smiled faintly, unusually gentle in his tone.
Penelope pretended to be shy. “You’re so mean!”
Then, she got up and headed to the bathroom.
Upon hearing the running water, Eugene immediately got out of bed and switched the box he had brought with one from Penelope’s bag.
Penelope came out of the bathroom and threw her arms around his neck. “Gene, Jackie is going to Fashion Week. I want to go, too.”
Eugene casually asked, “Do you have an invitation?”
Penelope froze, not even knowing invitations were needed. How embarrassing!
She grabbed Eugene’s arm and shook it gently. “Gene, you should be able to get me one, right?”
Eugene hesitated a moment, then refused, “You’re not suitable to go to such places right now.”
Penelope pouted and whispered a plea, “Gene, please let me go.
Noticing her insistence, Eugene grew impatient and casually agreed.
“Don’t cause me any trouble, and don’t flaunt that necklace” he warned quietly.
“Don’t worry, Gene. I won’t cause any trouble.”

The next evening, Eugene personally handed the gemstone necklace to Jacklyn.
She opened the box and glanced inside, immediately noticing it was different from the necklace Sammy had sent her a photo of yesterday.
It looked like the necklace had been switched back to the real one.
Jacklyn stared at the necklace without speaking. Eugene grew a little nervous. “Jackie, what are you looking at?”
She picked up the necklace and smiled lightly. “Nothing.”
Then, she looked up and locked eyes with him. “Just wondering if someone with ill intentions might swap the necklace in your office for a fake.”
Eugene met her gaze, feeling guilty.
“Only I have permission to enter my office. No one would dare do that.”
Jacklyn smiled faintly but said nothing. Though her eyes seemed to see right through him.
Eugene tried to act casual and quickly changed the subject. Fashion Week is tomorrow. Have you picked your dress? If not, we can go shopping now. It’s not too late.”
Jacklyn smiled. “Gene, you’re thinking ahead more than I am.”
She returned to her room, deliberately changed into a dress, and put on the necklace.
Penelope was never one to stay quiet. She was sure to show up at tomorrow’s Fashion Week.
Jacklyn was quietly looking forward to the show.
Eugene couldn’t help but be stunned. “Jackie, this dress really suits your skin tone. You’re beautiful.”
When he caught a whiff of the fresh scent on Jacklyn, Eugene’s throat went dry. He wrapped his arms around her
waist.
“Jackie, it’s been so long since we’ve been close.” He buried his face in her neck, greedily inhaling the scent of her
hair.
