Bailey’s pov
The gunshot echoed through the entire room like the roar of thunder.
For a moment everything stood still as I watch her body jerk back violently from the impact of the bullet hitting her on the shoulder. Her hold on the gun loosens until it hit the floor with a clatter, right beside Stefan’s unmoving body.
Juliet stumbles back and she whips towards me, her knees buckling as she kneel to the floor. “You,” she choked in shock, here eyes wide and wild with disbelief.
Then she does something incredibly stupid, she reaches for the gun again despite her shoulder staining with crimson.” Juliet
don’t-
I tried to warn her but her fingers wrap around the gun and she aims for me with trembling fingers latching onto the weapon.
–
Hands where I can see them!”
Drop the weapon!” The officers yelled.
“You!” She snarls just as she pulls the trigger. Another bang clears through the air, this time louder than the first. I clench my eyes tightly shut, my heart stopping as I waited for the impact, waited for the pain. However, it never came.
My eyes fly open, heart racing as I hear the clatter of metal hit the flooring
Juliet. Her body is frozen still. Her eyes opened wide and stunned. The gleam of anger no longer there but instead replaced with pain,
A strained gasp sound pushes out of her lips as he chin tilt down and her eyes peer down at her chest. My eyes followed hers and my stomach twist when I spot the crimson blood spread over her shirt, right above her heart.
She lifts her head, her hands trembling at her sides before she one to press against her wound. Her eyes clash on mine and they’re filled with blame. Blame directed at me.
Even when she had purposely caused this to herself she still blames me for her undoing. It was like this was all my fault. Her eyes told me it was
The final gleam before she stumps face first to the floor, cold and lifeless. This time she doesn’t get up.
Suspect down! I repeat, suspect down!” One of the officers shouts, his voice cutting through the fig in my mind.
I want to feel something, perhaps relief or peace but I cannot seem to conjure up the feeling when I am staring at both Stefan and Juliet’s unmoving bodies. I went to school with the two, one I had considered a friend.

Everything around me seem to move swiftly yet so slow at the same time as the officers swarmed forward. One kicks the gun away from Juliet’s motionless hand while another crouches low to check her pulse,
I feel sick to my stomach as the look he gave to his partner is confirmation enough. Juliet was gone.
I should peace, I should feel relief however I feel pity for her. I felt hallow.

Chapter 111
The officers speak but I zone them out, my body going into shock as 1 stare at Juliet’s lifeless body. Chaos runs around me, one of them checking on Stefan, hands gently releasing me from the constraints. I cannot seem to be in the moment, lost in my own mind.
He stal has a pulse.” he said to his partner while others swarmed in. The paramedics.
You re sale now. We’ve got you,” One of the female officers spoke gently to me, squeezing my arm as though in reassurance that i was alive and could feel.
1bit my eyes to hers as she helps me to my feet. My legs feel weak as I try to stand. Her hurt anywhere?”
1 blinked. Was I hurt? My heart was hurt. Did that count?
es are staring into mine softly. “Are you
I try to speak, however the words seem to lodge in my throat and refuse to come out so I settle for a shake of my head, telling her I wasn’t. She nods, her gaze softening even more if that were possible.
Come on, let’s get you out of here,” she says softly, wrapping an arm around my shoulder and gently guides me away from the gruesome scene around us.
My legs tremble as I try to walk away from the horror but then I stop and slowly look back, I am not sure what tempted me to. Maybe it was because I needed to really know that Juliet was dead and she’d never be a threat again.
“Come on,” the officer gently gives me a tug as my eyes glue to paramedics shouting commands as they work on Stefan.
I tear my eyes away and look forward. This could’ve been me. I could’ve been in Stefan’s position or worse…. Juliet’s. My heart beats in my chest as if telling me we were alive. We were okay.
A small part of me was grateful for Stefan because if it were not for him….the cops wouldn’t be here and I wouldn’t be the one standing. I swallowed and for the first time tonight I felt relief I could finally let the feeling wash over me..
I could finally feel human.
Come on,” the officer once again gently pushes me to move and this time I follow her, my legs stronger now with each step as we walk away from the awful scene.
“I’ll call your family,” the officer says softly, giving my shoulder a firm squeeze. My heart squeezes. My family. I get to see them again. I get to see him again.
–
Please,” I whispered, my eyes tearing up and my vision blurs.” please do,” I choked on a cry, my hands trembling. “I need them,” I turn to the officer, sobbing. “I need them.”
She doesn’t hesitate once and pulls me in her arms, wrapping me in a hug like a mother would. I cry into her shoulder, wailing until my throat hurt. “You’re safe, you’re okay,” she repeats and the words move in and out of my head. “We’ll get them here, don’t worry.”
“Come on,” she pulls away and brushes some of my strands away from my face.” Let’s get you into the ambulance. You’ll wait for
them there.”
I nod numbly and follow her, my heart weighing less with each step I took out of the house. “Please tell them to call Kaleb,” I whisper, my eyes shifting to stare at her as she puts her attention on me.” I need him to.”
