Chapter12
Cassian’s POV
Everyone had moved into the clearing in the woods, ready for us to shift.
Who does this pretty boy think he is, just showing up and trying to claim what’s mine?
Sure, I treated her like crap and slept with her sister–but that was before I realized just how damn
fine she was.
I still don’t care much about the whole mate thing, but I definitely want her in my bed at night.
There’s no way I’m letting him take what’s mine. I don’t give a damn if he’s the King of Wolves.
I marched up and grabbed Skyla’s arm, growling, “Mine.”
And right then, the sound of tearing clothes filled the air, followed by a thunderous roar.
Before I could even process what was happening, pain exploded down my spine.
I was shifting.
Time passed–how much, I wasn’t sure.
Gasps echoed all around the clearing. I glanced down at my paws: jet black, just as expected for an
alpha.
I looked around and spotted another black wolf–Sebastian, judging by his size.
Nearby was a stunning white wolf, whose scent told me it was my sister, Alexia. She was nuzzling Sebastian, her mate.
She was going to make a perfect Luna.
Then my eyes landed on a small brown wolf–but what really caught my attention was the massive Golden Wolf towering above both Sebastian and me.
And what tore me apart was that this Golden Wolf was my mate, nuzzling up against the King’s
hand.
I couldn’t believe I had rejected the Golden Wolf.
I lifted my head and howled in agony to the moon, mourning the stupidity of my choices.
Then I noticed Selene–the brown wolf–snarling in our direction.

Clothes were passed around so we could shift back in private.
As I started toward the trees, I turned back and watched my mate shift effortlessly into her human
form–fully clothed.
I hated her even more for that.
But I’d still take her–for the power.
She won’t slip away from me that easily.
