Chapter 2
That night, Nataly had a very long dream.
The scene of meeting Simeon for the first time was in a dream.
That year she was on years old, and she went to attend the Parrish family’s dinner with her
father.
He stood by the piano in a sharp black suit, his slender fingers holding a glass of champagne, his eyes and eyebrows like a painting.
She fell in love with him at first sight.
Later, she gathered up the courage to kiss him, and he was stunned for a moment, then chuckled softly, “Little girl, that’s not how you kiss.”
Then he grasped the back of her head and taught her what a real kiss was.
That kiss was so long, so long that she couldn’t catch her breath, so long that now when she thinks back, it feels like a surreal dream.
When she woke up, her pillow was already wet.
The day broke, and she hesitated for a long time before picking up her phone and dialing her father’s number.
“Dad, I got divorced,” her voice was hoarse, “After I get the divorce certificate, I will go abroad to be with you guys.”
“Did Simeon bully you?” Dad’s voice immediately raised.
“No,” Nataly looked out the window at the gradually brightening sky, “I just don’t love him anymore.‘
Actually, it was Simeon who didn’t love her.
And she would never love him again.
She didn’t say this sentence out loud, like swallowing a piece of broken glass, letting it cut flesh and blood in her heart.
After hanging up the phone, a friend request suddenly popped up on WhatsApp.
Nataly ordered takeout on a whim.

The other party immediately sent a video.
In the scene, Simeon was dozing on the sofa, with a slight frown on his brow, murmuring a name in
his mouth: “Alice…”
Following the video, a large amount of information was sent.
“I am Alice Blake, Simeon’s first love. I never expected that after so many years, he would be married but still not forget me. Today, when I returned to the country, I discovered that he still had my nickname tattooed on the inside of his wrist. All of our photos together and the diaries he wrote are still well–preserved. You see, he still calls my name in his dreams. He must be dreaming about our past, after all, that was his unforgettable first love.”
Nataly looked at this long paragraph, her heart had already hurt to numbness.
She only replied with one sentence: “What do you want to do?”
The other party took a long time to reply: “It’s nothing, Ijust want to get back what belongs to me. He is about to wake up soon. Do you believe that if I just say I had a nightmare, he will stay with me once?” for the next five days and won’t contact you
She did not reply again.
And ten minutes later, Simeon’s message came through.
“Baby, I have to go on a business trip for five days. The secretary will be there for you. Take care of yourself and the children.”
Nataly stared at the screen and suddenly laughed.
As I was laughing, tears fell on the screen of my phone.
Over the next five days, Simeon indeed remained silent.
Alice’s news kept coming.
Simeon accompanied her for a walk by the sea, took her to the mountaintop to watch the sunset, and drove her for a ride in the countryside.
Alice sent a message: “These are the places we used to visit when we were in love.”
Nataly finished watching without missing a single scene, suddenly remembering that Simeon had also taken her to these places.
She thought he was romantic at that time, now she realizes he was just revisiting the old place, looking at another person through her silhouette.
In the evening of the fifth day, Nataly began to pack up her things.
Simeon gave her jewelry, handbags, clothes…
All items related to him were packed into boxes and thrown into the storage room.
When Simeon returned home exhausted, what he saw was a wardrobe that was half empty
He paused for a moment and asked, “Baby, what are you doing?”
Nataly didn’t even lift her head and said, “I didn’t do anything, just threw away some useless stuff.”
Simeon didn’t think much, just smiled and handed her the gift in his hand, a limited edition picture
book.
Last month she casually mentioned wanting to collect something, but she didn’t expect that he remembered it.
“Baby,” he naturally pulled her into his arms, his big hands caressing her small belly, “Has the morning sickness been severe recently? Tomorrow is the prenatal check–up, I’ll accompany you.”
“No need.” Nataly broke free from his embrace. “Not anymore in the future.”
Simeon finally realized that something was wrong: “What do you mean ‘not needed anymore‘, have you been feeling unwell recently?”
The servant on the side interjected, “Madam has not had a good appetite these days and has hardly eaten anything.”
Simeon immediately loosened his tie and said, “I’ll go buy groceries to cook for you, all your favorites. Be good and eat a little more.”
Turning around, he still reminded, “Take good care of Madam and make sure she doesn’t bump into anything.”
The servants whispered enviously,
The master is really good to the madam…”
“When looking for a husband, you should find someone older who will take care of you…”
Nataly listened quietly, a hint of self–mockery flashing in her eyes.
She once thought that she had found the best love in the world.
Now I understand that it was just a carefully designed game of substitutes.
