Chapter 28 Everyone…So Pay
Attention
Kane, my Beta Chipper, and I arrive at the waterfall. We are immediately
bombarded with questions by those camping there. They all want to talk at
once. I feel a headache coming on. No one will let anyone speak. They are
all trying to tell me why they are there at the same time.
Holding my hand up for quiet, “Where is your Alpha?”
A younger looking man of Beta blood says, “We tracked her here and lost
her scent.” Once again, everyone starts trying to speak over one another.
Holding my hand up again, “Where is your Luna?”
The same young man answers, “We tracked her here and lost her scent.”
My gamma looks at me and frowns. He steps forward, raising his hand for
quiet, “Okay, let’s try this. What pack are you from?”
A different young man steps forward, “I got this Mark. Alpha, we are from
the Moon Touched pack.”
I noticed my gamma’s complexion became pale. “There is no such pack.
What pack are you from?”
The one, and the other called Mark, stepped forwards again, “Alpha, we
were originally the Blood Meadow pack. Our Alpha was challenged and
lost. We did not wish to be part of that pack any longer and have formed our
own pack. The Moon Touched pack has been tracking it’s Alpha Luna for
hours and we lost her scent at this waterfall.”
Nathan, Kane, and Chipper stood staring at one another. Nathan squeezed
the area between his eyes like he was trying to ward off a headache. “I just
know I am going to regret this, but can someone start at the beginning and
explain what the hell is going on? What is an Alpha Luna?”
Once again, everyone started talking at once. Alpha Nathan could only pull
out snippets. Ghost, ripped out throat, chosen mate, fated mate, rejection,
little ghost, dungeons, sweet, not deserving, has the Alpha and Luna
powers, on and on it went with nothing making any sense still.
Finally, he shouts, “STOP! Pick one person to represent and speak for you
all. That person can come with us, by the pool, at the bottom of the falls.
Everyone else stay here and continue whatever you were doing.”
Alpha Nathan stands watching as the Beta blood wolf and the one he has
figured to be the gamma wolf have a conversation through their link. A few
minutes later, the beta wolf walks forwards. He follows Nathan, Kane, and
Chipper to the pool. The three men introduce themselves as the Alpha, Beta,
and Gamma of the Snow Moon pack. The young man tells them his name is
Mark and he is the Beta of the Moon Touch pack and the Beta of the Blood
Meadow pack before that.
“I really don’t know where to start,” Mark says.
Nathan situates himself between his beta and gamma, “I guess like anyone
else would say. At the beginning.”
Mark sighs, “That’s just it. I don’t know what the beginning is for our Alpha
Luna or little ghost, as we call her also.” I just know the beginning she has
with us. The story is not very happy, Alpha, and I am afraid you will not
understand.”
“Mark, just tell us the truth and we will go from there.” Alpha Nathan said.
Mark talked for hours. Telling everything that happened from the moment
he met his little ghost on her tenth birthday. He spoke about unjustifiable
abuse, almost rapes, her wolf forcing a shift at such a young age and
attacking the Alpha, day after day in hospital, in the dungeons, her pretend
death, the haunting of the cabin, and finally the defeat of Alpha Thomas
along with her rejection from her fated mate. He talked about the love they
all had for her and not wanting to be a part of the Blood Meadow pack or
whatever pack it is now. How they chased her down, tracked her, for hours
until they lost her scent.” Tears streamed down his face the whole time.
The pack gamma came walking up and put his arms around the young man.
Both sat crying for their lost ranking wolf. The gamma looked at us, “We
know she gave up. We kept her there two other times. Promising her that
her life would be better. Especially when her fated mate found her. Her wolf
believed that so much. When he rejected her, she was destroyed. We saw it
in her face. We knew she was done. We had hoped we could catch up to her
and talk her out of it. She has had so much pain in her seventeen years.”
Alpha Nathan could not believe the story he had just heard and that was
only the part these people knew of this young woman’s life. He stood to see
what splashing in the pool was. He was amazed to see members of the other
pack repeatedly diving under the water as if they were looking for
something. “What are they doing”, he finally inquired of the two wolves
sitting with him.
The gamma looked out over the water. Watching his pack members, he said,
“First Alpha, I am Kelp. I am or was our Alpha Luna’s gamma. Second, to
answer your question, we know she took her life, and we figure running off
the edge of a cliff was the way she did it. We know our little ghost and we
know she would not have been scared to die. She had wanted it before and
we could not let her go. So, sir, they are diving for her body. We want to
honor her last wishes that she has given us once before.”
The Alpha’s gamma linked him, “Nathan, we need to tell them about our
new Luna. She is the one they are looking for. I know she is. If it is her,
they can tell us her name.”
“Goddess Kane, I am so afraid you are right, and she has been through
much more than even they know. My poor little Luna.” Alpha Nathan
turned back toward the two younger gentlemen, “I will allow the two of you
to come with us to our pack hospital. We rescued a young woman about a
week ago from this very pool. She threw herself over the edge of the cliff as
far as we could tell. She is alive but has not regained consciousness.”
Kelp looked to the beta for their pack, “Mark, do you think it is possible?
Do you think it could be her?”
“Kelp, goddess, I don’t know but how many women were running in this
direction and would want to jump off the cliff on that same day?” Mark
replied.
They both agreed to whatever the Alpha asked of them. They gave
directions for their pack to stay next to the waterfall. Left Doc, Eric, and
Coral in charge and went off with the Snow Moon pack’s ranking members.
As they were leaving the Snow Moon, Alpha dropped another piece of
information on them, “There is something you need to know. If this young
woman is the one you are looking for, she is my fated mate.”
