Chapter 19 Enjoy The Scenery
Zephyr responded softly, “Mr. Hamlet, choose your words carefully. When did I ever say something like that?”
Sadie clutched the pearl tightly.
Gregory Hamlet, the governor of Aurelia Province, lived in Wisteria City and was in charge of finance and public welfare. His position stood in contrast to the Gates family, who controlled the army, in Dwarven City. Though they didn’t get along, both sides kept their power balanced, each holding their ground.
Gregory asked, “Then why would you…
“According to the autopsy, the killer came from Wisteria City. I simply saw a man die from poison. It was a sad sight, but I was moved by his loyalty to his master, which is why I sent his body back to his hometown so he could rest in peace. Unfortunately, his master was foolish. His plotting failed, and he lost a loyal servant because of it,” Zephyr answered in a gentle voice.
Sadie bit her lip.
The space under the table was tight, and with someone stretching out their legs so much, she had no choice but to awkwardly curl up her body.
Her body gradually grew numb and weak. Without thinking, she reached out and touched something cold.
She looked up and realized her hand was on top of Zephyr’s foot.
Zephyr was sipping his tea when he suddenly felt someone touch his foot.
He looked down and met a pair of wide eyes filled with fear.
Gregory let out a dry chuckle. “Commander Gates, you’re truly kind–hearted. If it were me, I’d definitely turn the killer into dust.”
Zephyr’s voice remained gentle. “I heard that your son is studying at Cranesong Academy, but it seems he isn’t very good with his studies. Is he planning to join the army?”
The military in the southwestern region was under Nicolas‘ control.
If Gregory’s son wanted to join the army, he’d have to go through the Gates family first.
Zephyr’s words carried a warning. He was using the boy’s future to pressure Gregory not to cause any more
trouble.
Sadie quickly moved her hand off his foot and avoided looking at him again.
The expressions on Gregory’s round face kept changing,
Eventually, he gripped his teacup and forced a smile. “Commander Gates, why would you bring up child? Oh, right! For Lady Talulla’s sixtieth birthday, I had a statue of a deity made from two full pounds of gold. I hope you and Lady Talulla will accept it kindly.”
that
Two pounds of gold….
Sadie unconsciously swallowed at the thought of the golden statue.

When she looked up, Zephyr was staring straight at her.
His cold expression showed annoyance. He was even more convinced that she was someone greedy for wealth.
Zephyr looked away and casually sipped his tea.
He said to Gregory, “Mr. Hamlet, your sincere birthday gift is appreciated. It would be rude for my grandmother not to accept it.”
Gregory had suffered a huge loss that day. He kept an awkward smile on his lips and didn’t dare say much”
else.
Finally, after all the officials left, Sadie slowly tried to get up, only to find herself face–to–face with a pair of black boots with a cloud pattern.
She lowered her head and called out nervously, “Lord Zephyr…
Zephyr stood with his hands behind his back, looking down at her from above.
She had been hiding under the table for a long time, and her body was covered in a light, sweet–scented sweat. Messy strands of her black hair stuck to her pale checks. A soft blush had spread across her face, making her look like a blooming peach blossom.
He asked. “Why were you hiding under the table?”
Sadie stretched out her hand, showing the pearl in her palm. “My earring rolled under the table, so I went to
get it.”
Her palm was damp with sweat, and the pearl shone with a watery glow, much like her clear, dewy eyes.
Zephyr asked again, “What were you doing at the lodge?”
Sadie pulled back her hand.
The Duke’s heir treated her like a thief.
Every time he looked at her, it felt like he was interrogating a criminal.
She replied, “I came to enjoy the scenery.”
Realizing he wouldn’t get anything else out of her, Zephyr turned slightly, silently giving her permission to leave.
Sadie lowered her head and hurried off, gripping the pearl tightly in her hand.
Zephyr wore an expressionless face.
There was still a light smell of peach blossoms in the air around him, gently reminding him of the girl.
That sweetness annoyed him.
He had planned to remove Sadie from the Gates Estate, But Talulla liked her a lot, and with bandits causing trouble in the northwestern region, he had been busy leading the army to deal with them. Because of that. he ended up putting his plan about Sadie aside for the time being.
Chapter 19 Enjoy The Scenery
As the weather grew warmer, the Francis siblings continued to ignore Sadie. They hadn’t spoken to
months.
With more free time, Sadie buried herself in books and learning, as if starving for knowledge,
She read everything. from history books to gossip on the streets, soaking it all in like a sponge.
In this life, she no longer needed to wear herself out for her father and brothers. She devoted all her time to herself.
By the end of autumn and the beginning of winter, she had climbed into the top ten in her class.
Sadie was very pleased.
Although she didn’t come in first place, she was quite content with her ranking. After all, compared to the noble girls who had studied since childhood, she had missed many years of education.
Whenever the academy was on break, she would head to the library in the estate.
Sometimes, Alexander would join her there, lost in a book and happily keeping her company.
