Talulla allowed Sadie to have full authority when it came to visiting the Francis family for the new year. She had complete control over what gifts to bring.
She picked out ten bolts of silk from the storeroom, along with four sets of calligraphy supplies as gifts for her siblings. Finally, she grabbed a ginseng for her father.
The gifts were varied and sounded impressive if spoken about, but in reality, these were just old items that had been gathering dust in the estate for years. They weren’t worth much at all.
Half an hour later, the Gates family’s carriage came to a steady halt at the back gate of the Magistrate’s Office.
Behind the Magistrate’s Office was a residential area, complete with a back entrance, exclusively for the magistrate and his family to reside.
Sadie looked up, catching sight of the sign engraved with “The Francis Estate” before leading her maids through the entrance.
Adonis was busy reviewing his studies and didn’t come out.
Neville was standing on the steps, going on and on. “I just can’t believe that Sadie can truly hold her ground in the Gates Estate! Don’t be fooled by her not coming home these past few months; she might be missing us like crazy! Otherwise, why would she come home today? To celebrate the new year? Pffft! She just misses
us!”
