Chapter 22
Martin, pale–faced from the car accident, nonchalantly took a sip of water, showing no signs of
urgency.
When the auctioneer called for the third time, slowly and leisurely, he raised the sign, “1,670,000 dollars.”
Martin was always proud and arrogant, in his eyes, money was just a string of numbers.
He put down the cards and lightly said, “Mr. Peterson, this was your limit.”
Reed sneered lightly and was about to retort, but felt a tug at his sleeve.
He didn’t turn around, knowing it was Evelyn. Every time he got carried away, Evelyn would be there to hold him back, and they had already formed an understanding.
Patting Evelyn’s hand reassuringly, he casually put down the cards and applauded, saying, “Mr.
Wilson is truly a man of great accomplishments. I admire him.”
At that moment, the auction hammer struck down, and the enthusiastic voice of the auctioneer
rang out, “Congratulations to Mr. Wilson from the Wilson Group for winning Nell’s artwork, My
World. Thank you for your contribution to the charity…”
As the auctioneer finished speaking, warm applause followed.
Martin, however, remained emotionless until he witnessed the intimate actions between Evelyn
and Reed, at which point his eyes suddenly turned cold.
His expression remained unchanged, but he clenched the cup in his hand.
In the end, Reed bought a collectible that Evelyn liked.
The auction ended, and the crowd gradually dispersed.
Reed took the signed documents of the collection and handed them over to Evelyn on the spot.
Evelyn hesitated for a moment, instinctively refusing, “No, this…”
“It’s okay, just consider it as you helping me keep it safe,” Reed thought of a good reason
considerately.
He knew that Evelyn would not accept, but still hoped that the two of them could have more connections, after all, certain people were still lurking nearby.
Evelyn heard and, if she refused again, it wouldn’t look good, so she silently took the collection and

prepared to leave.
Just as the two of them were leaving, Martin’s cold voice came through.
“Evelyn, do you have time tomorrow to talk about our collaboration?”
Evelyn stopped in her tracks, a hint of surprise flickered across her face, quickly disappearing, and she put on a proper smile again.
“Mr. Wilson, another day then. When you have fully recovered, I will definitely come to your door to
express my gratitude.”
Faced with Evelyn’s refusal to discuss cooperation, Martin’s eyes dimmed, and his sitting figure
appeared somewhat lonely.
Reed was completely unaware of this matter and, in a daze, thought about the collaboration. Immediately, the Easter Group’s project popped into his mind, and he gritted his teeth at the thought.
Martin, did he actually deceive us behind our backs?!
He took a step forward and smiled slightly, saying, “Mr. Wilson, Evelyn is now in charge of another
project and may not be able to attend to your concerns. Let me talk to you instead.”
Martin fell silent for a moment, and his pale lips moved slightly, “No need, since we can’t
cooperate, let’s compete openly.”
The atmosphere at the scene immediately became cold.
Evelyn realized that the situation was not right and tried to come up with a way to defuse it, but her
wrist was grabbed by Reed.
He held on and didn’t let go, “It’s okay, then let’s compete fairly.”
Is this competition not that competition?!
The people who had not yet left watched the hustle and bustle, with this sentence floating in their
minds.
Their eyes were filled with excitement, and they had a joyful expression as if they had just eaten a
delicious melon.
Martin didn’t say anything, his eyes fixed on Reed as he grabbed Evelyn’s wrist, his expression growing colder and colder.
Reed laughed and slowly moved down Evelyn’s wrist, grasping her delicate hand and slowly

interlocking their fingers.
Evelyn’s mind was blank until she felt the warmth of Reed’s palm in her hand, and then she snapped back to reality.
A look of confusion appeared on the face, what is this? Did the rival become particularly jealous upon seeing each other?
He shook his head immediately. How could it be possible? Don’t be so sentimental.
My mind was in a whirl, like a tangled ball of thread, unable to make sense of it all.
He forgot to withdraw his hand directly.
Martin’s face looked very unpleasant as he forced out a sentence from his throat, “What is your relationship?“!
