Chapter 38
Isabel was stunned for a few seconds before she realized that Martin had just seen everything.
She said with red eyes and unwillingness, “Yes, I did it on purpose, all because of her, that’s why you treated me like this.”
Martin, however, ignored him and turned to look at Evelyn, his gaze turning slightly colder. “Are you okay?”
Evelyn shook her head, ignoring the affection in his eyes.
Martin suddenly recalled the embrace, sensing Evelyn’s growing distance more prominently.
Whenever I think of that scene, my heart aches.
He felt that Evelyn was getting farther and farther away from him, like there was a thin film
separating them, visible but forever out of reach.
Evelyn saw the situation and Martin was probably unaware of the banner incident.
At that moment, he spoke directly, “Mr. Wilson, even though we are rival companies, we shouldn’t resort to such low tactics as spreading false rumors, should we? Although you saved me and I am grateful, I cannot tolerate others accusing me like this.”
Martin frowned and said, “What do you mean?”
Evelyn directly exposed Isabel’s true colors, “The lady next to you, she hung a banner downstairs of my company, saying that I seduced you for the project.”
As soon as these words were spoken, Martin’s face darkened.
Isabel panicked and explained, “It wasn’t me, Martin…”
“Is it you, Mr. Wilson, who can easily find out? I believe your methods can uncover a lot of things.”
Evelyn didn’t want to get involved anymore. She knew she should have just stayed in the company
instead of getting caught up in this drama.
What bad luck.
“I still have something to do, so I’m leaving first.” With these words, I was ready to leave.
Martin’s heart tightened, and regardless of Isabel beside him, he controlled the wheelchair and
chased after.

Evelyn was walking when suddenly her wrist tightened, followed by his voice.
“Evelyn!”
Evelyn turned her head and glanced back, ignoring the pleading look he wanted to explain. She looked at her wri and silently struggled to break free.
Martin’s eyes dimmed, and his hands lost their strength. He loosened his grip and said, “Evelyn,
can we talk? This… is too unbelievable…”
He wanted to spit out his experiences, but when the words reached his lips, he didn’t know how to
start.
In their past life, they were a married couple. She died due to a miscarriage. In this present life, they came to this world to find her and wanted to compensate her properly.
Would she believe it?
Evelyn sighed and said helplessly, “Mr. Wilson, I don’t know why you like me, but I only have
gratitude towards you, nothing else.”
After a pause, in order to completely extinguish his thoughts, she said, “And besides, I was already
with Reed.”
This sentence hit Martin’s head like a bolt from the blue.
His hand supporting the wheelchair trembled, as he slowly gazed into Evelyn’s eyes, hoping to find a trace of pretense.
But her eyes were clean and serious, with a hint of sweetness in them, yet they did not belong to
him.
He lowered his gaze, unwilling to look, and still asked, “Are you with Reed?”
Evelyn nodded, “Yes, we were together and even met each other’s parents, so I hope Mr. Wilson
won’t do these misleading things anymore. My boyfriend would get jealous.”
In the end, a hint of smile appeared in the eyes.
Word by word, sentence by sentence, like a knife stabbing into the heart, the pain was excruciating.
Restlessness churned in the heart, “Why?”
In his perception, Evelyn was his wife, even though this world was different from the previous one,
but they were supposed to be together.

Didn’t the heavens let him be reborn, just to make up for regrets and prevent her death?
Evelyn looked at Martin and smiled sweetly, “Because he deserved it.”
