Chapter 13
As Rod listened to the harsh accusations, his nonchalant face gradually turned cold.
Ivy’s mother, afraid that the father and son would start arguing again, quickly intervened and changed the subject.
“The child had to socialize for work and drinking a little alcohol was also unavoidable. Why did you
scold him?”
“Rod, are you feeling unwell? Why don’t you go wash up first, and I’ll make you some sobering
soup.”
The great mood was ruined, and Rod lost his patience to play along with her. He left a remark and went upstairs.
“No need.”
After taking a cold shower, Rod’s stomach started to ache.
He endured the discomfort and searched through the cabinet, only to find an empty box of stomach
medicine. Frustrated, he angrily punched the table.
Cold sweat mixed with water droplets flowed down from the forehead.
Rod gritted his teeth and wiped his face, revealing a hint of coldness in his eyes.
He was about to go downstairs to the hospital when he pushed open the door and coincidentally
bumped into Ivy’s mother, who was carrying a sobering soup upstairs.
As soon as she saw him, she immediately handed over the tray in her hand, her tone full of concern.
“Rod, drink the soup, otherwise you will definitely feel uncomfortable. I will talk to your father, you just rest well.”
Rod gritted his teeth and put on a nonchalant expression, nodded, and carried the tray back to the
room.
As the door closed, his hands uncontrollably trembled, causing the hot soup to splash out, quickly filling the entire room with its aroma.
He couldn’t help but collapse on the ground, looking at the steaming bowl in front of him, but he
didn’t reach out.
After the pain had subsided a little, he picked up the bowl and stumbled into the bathroom, pouring the soup directly into the toilet.

As Rod watched the golden soup being washed away by the water, he felt that his stomach had Improved a lot.
He casually threw the bowl into the sink, leaned against the wall and walked into the room, and
then fell onto the bed.
The wet hair, which was not dried, quickly soaked the blanket.
He lay motionless on this damp bed.
I don’t know how long it had been, but the torment that plagued him finally dissipated.
He opened his crimson eyes, picked up his phone, and called his mother who was far away in
Mycelira.
One after another, only the endless beeping echoed in the room.
His mother did not answer his call, she only sent a message.
“Sorry, Ms. Prescott is in a meeting. I will inform her immediately to call you back as soon as the
meeting is over.”
It was still the secretary who sent it.
Rod’s eyes welled up with tears as he read word by word.
It was not until 11 o’clock in the evening that Maggie Prescott called and asked him what was going
- on.
One sentence made Rod silent.
He looked at the date circled on the calendar, his voice hoarse.
“Mom, in a few days, it will be my birthday, can you come back…”
“I had work that day and I told my secretary what I wanted, she would prepare it for you. It’s also getting late here, so you should rest early. I’ll hang up first.”
Maggie didn’t give her son another chance to speak and hung up.
Work, always work.
Staring at the darkening screen, Rod tightly clutched the blanket, his fingers drained of color from the tight grip.
He didn’t want to cry out loud, so he took a pillow and tightly covered his nostrils, suffocating

himself until his face turned red.
He didn’t let go of the pillow and get up until the clock on the wall pointed to twelve o’clock.
After washing his face in the bathroom, he turned off the lights in the room and then quietly left through the door.
Walked to the other end of the second floor.
This time, Rod opened the last room’s door without using a key.
His extremely gloomy mood finally eased a little.
The room was much quieter than usual, without the air conditioning on, and it felt a bit stuffy.
The jasmine incense that is usually lit every day was not lit today, and Rod was somewhat
uncomfortable.
He walked to the edge of the bed with ease and reached his hand into the blanket.
But only found an empty hand.
He bent down and reached out to the other side, but still didn’t touch anyone.
Is the person not here?
At this time, you still haven’t returned home at night?
As soon as Rod thought about this possibility, his face turned ugly.
He took out his phone and found Ivy, sent a question mark.
One second later, the phone made a “ding” sound.
Not instantaneously replied messages.
But it was not the sound of a message being received, but rather the sound of a message being
rejected.
Looking at the red exclamation mark on the screen, Rod realized that Ivy had not let him out yet.
Still angry?
Wasn’t this morning fine?
Rod’s restless heart grew even more impatient, so he could only curl up into a ball and lie in bed.

Smelling that familiar fragrance, his tightly furrowed brow slowly relaxed.
Drowsiness gradually surged as well.
