After the divorce, I realized how beautiful life could be.
I’d spent years revolving around Kaelan–worrying about what he ate, what he wore. My whole heart was tied up in
him.
Only now did I realize that during all those years of loving him desperately, I’d lost myself.
My phone rang in the middle of the night.
I fumbled for the answer button. Kaelan’s strained voice came through:
“Siena, my stomach’s killing me. I miss that soup you used to make…”
I snapped awake.
Kaelan had chronic stomach problems. During our three years of marriage, I’d personally managed his diet. He hadn’t had a flare–up in ages.
I used to wake up at 5 AM every morning to cook him soup, just so he could have a warm bowl when he got up.
He always complained about it. I had to beg him to drink even one bowl.
Now that we were divorced, he was finally starting to miss what I did for him.
How fucking ironic.
“Kaelan, we’re divorced.”
Heavy breathing came through the phone. “Siena, we were married for three years. Doesn’t that mean anything to you?”
How dare he say that?
Every time he hurt me for Aubrey’s sake, my love for him died a little more.
‘Are you done? I’m hanging up.”
“Wait…”
Kaelan groaned in pain. “Where are the stomach pills?”
I hesitated, not wanting anyone to die. “Third drawer.”
I hung up before he could say anything else.

After thinking about it, I finally blocked his number in the end.
The next day, my phone wouldn’t stop ringing.
Not Kaelan–my father, who I hadn’t seen in ages.
“Siena, look what you’ve become! Sterling Corp only survives because of Kaelan’s support, and you divorced him without my permission?”
“I’m telling you right now–go back and beg Kaelan for forgiveness. Get on your knees if you have to, make him remarry you, or you’re no daughter of mine!”
I listened coldly without even frowning.
“You said it yourself–Sterling Corp depends entirely on the Maddoxs. So maybe it should just go bankrupt.”
“You–you ungrateful brat! Are you trying to kill me?”
His furious voice came through the phone. But I didn’t give a shit.
Vivienne couldn’t take it anymore. She grabbed my phone, hung up, ripped out the SIM card and threw it in the trash–all in one smooth motion.
“Siena, you’re still recovering and you’re listening to these psychos bark? I should’ve told them all off!”
I couldn’t help but smile at her. “I was about to, but you stopped me.”
Vivienne was speechless for a moment. “Well, I was just trying to save you from getting hurt.”
I shook my head.
Actually, I wasn’t scared anymore.
I used to care what they said because I still had hope for them.
Now that hope was dead. Why would I care what they thought?
“Let’s not talk about depressing shit.”
It was all in the past. I didn’t want to dwell on painful memories.
Kaelan was getting married. To Aubrey, of course.
Their wedding photos were plastered everywhere.
I didn’t know how much was my father’s doing or Kaelan’s genuine feelings.
Though he’d loved Aubrey for years, so now that his dream was coming true, this kind of display made perfect sense.

Chapter 5
“This pisses me off! You two just divorced, and those two are already getting married!”
“I heard Aubrey wants the wedding streamed worldwide. A homewrecking bitch like her? How shameless.”
I’d just picked up my paintbrush again.
During our three–year marriage, I had put everything aside for Kaelan. He hated the smell of paint, so I gave up my only hobby and spent 365 days a year taking care of his every need.
But now I was living for myself.
“Makes sense. They were supposed to get married anyway.”
If the Maddox family hadn’t gone bankrupt years ago, Aubrey wouldn’t have fled overseas and married that rich foreign guy.
Now that his princess was back, naturally he’d give her everything.
“But it’s unfair. Why should she get to be happy after everything you went through?”
I put down my brush. “Maybe this is my chance.”
Vivienne looked confused.
I smiled softly. “You’ll understand soon enough.”
