Kaelan still wouldn’t give up.
He started pursuing me aggressively, even pestering Vivienne until she was sick of it.
“That asshole’s trying to turn over a new leaf. Siena, would you forgive him?”
When I was lying alone on that cold operating table, the last thread connecting me to him had already been severed.
“I booked a one–way ticket to Chicago. I’m not coming back.”
Vivienne raised an eyebrow. “What if that bastard keeps harassing you?”
“He won’t.”
It was pouring rain the day I left for Chicago.
Right before boarding, I got a call from Kaelan.
“Siena, I know everything now. You were pregnant with my baby…”
“I already had the abortion.”
Kaelan went silent on the other end.
He let out a pained growl. “Siena, you can’t be this cruel.”
“At the reunion, I was planning to tell you the good news. But do you remember what you said?”
He’d promised Aubrey a future in front of everyone, making me a laughingstock.
He never thought about how that would hurt me.
“The day I was going in for the procedure, I was hoping you’d tell me you didn’t love Aubrey anymore–that you only loved me. But then I saw Aubrey’s Instagram post, so I went to the hospital without hesitation.”
“You know what? The abortion really fucking hurt. But even though it was agony, I didn’t scream once. Because I knew I could finally let you go.”
Kaelan was sobbing on the other end.
Then I heard a horrible crash.
The line went dead.

His Rivals Later in My
Chapter 8
Vivienne called me later. “Siena, big news–Kaelan got in a car accident the day you left. Both legs amputated. He’ll be in a wheelchair for life.”
I let out a soft laugh. “Really?”
Vivienne was quiet for a moment. “Siena, did you expect this to happen?”
I didn’t answer.
But silence is sometimes an answer too.
Love that comes too late is cheaper than anything.
I didn’t need some worthless love to prove my worth anymore.
I deliberately chose a rainy day to leave.
Rain makes roads slippery, especially on the highway. After taking hit after hit, Kaelan could barely think straight.
I’d expected the crash, but I didn’t think he’d end up disabled.
A year later, I met my current husband Milo Thatcher through work.
He’s a photographer. And we met by chance while he captured me painting in the mountains during a shoot.
He said it was the most beautiful moment he’d ever captured.
We got to know each other gradually.
His past was simple–no exes he couldn’t forget. No “first love” excuses.
I was honest about my history too.
I’d had a failed marriage that left me broken.
He took my hand, his eyes full of love.
“Siena, I’m willing to wait–until you can let go of the past. Until then, just give me a chance to pursue you. I want to give you everything beautiful.”
I leaned in and kissed him with a smile. “Funny, that’s exactly what I want too.”
Life’s too short to give up the right to be loved because the wrong person broke your heart.
I still believe in beautiful love.
And here he was here in front of me now.
