Chapter 57
MAIN VILLA – 12:46 a.m.
I lock my bedroom door. I open the window and wait a few minutes for Alexander to show up. I’m really playing with fire. I’m going to get burned.
He gets in without any problem. He looks around my room like he’s reclaiming the space.
“What do you have that belongs to me?”
“You’re impatient, doll.”
“Just answer the question so we can be done with this.”
He smiles wide, showing all his teeth, and digs into the pocket of his suit pants while watching me to catch every reaction. He pulls out a silver necklace – plain to most people but precious to me.
I’d lost it when Anis and Franck tried to rape me in prison. It was my mother’s last gift before she died. A wave of emotion hits me seeing the piece I never thought I’d see again.
I move closer to Alexander. I try to grab the necklace, but he pulls his hand away instantly.
“Give me the necklace.”
“Wrong. It’s mine since I picked it up.”
“You’ve had it all this time and never told me!”
He shrugs.
“I admit, the necklace intrigued me. You’re not the kind of woman who wears jewelry. It had to be sentimental.”
“Give it back.”
“The problem is… I really like it.”
I exhale sharply, trying not to punch him in the face.
“What do you want?”
His smile grows wider.
“I thought you’d never ask.”
Bastard. His eyes drop to my lips.
“Since we met, we’ve never really had any physical contact.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I have a request.”
I feel his warm breath against my skin, but I do everything I can to stay still.

Chapter 57
“Things are about to get serious.”
I raise my eyebrows, bracing for whatever bullshit he’s about to say.
“I want you to kiss me.”
No mockery, no irony in his voice. He’s serious.
I can’t kiss him. That’s a line I won’t cross.
When he asked in prison as a reward, I didn’t mind. I would’ve kissed him back then without a problem.
But now, things have changed.
Kissing him would be like admitting I feel something for him.
“I refuse.”
He doesn’t look surprised by my answer. He just shrugs and holds the necklace out the window, ready to throw it.
If it falls, it’ll break beyond repair.
“What would it cost you to kiss me just once?”
“I don’t want to.”
“I know you’re dying to.”
“Why do you want to kiss me so badly?”
He smiles.
“A simple test.”
“Go fuck yourself.”
“Very well. Say goodbye to your necklace.”
He’s about to toss it when I run toward him. I rush so fast that I trip just as I reach him.
I’m about to fall out the window and die a stupid death when Alexander grabs my wrist tightly. He yanks me back against him, and I end up with my head pressed to his chest.
I can feel his heart beating just as fast as mine.
Why is his heart racing like that?
“Fuck… You almost died over a necklace, you idiot!”
I can’t even answer, my heart is pounding so fast. If his reflexes weren’t that sharp, I’d be flat like a pancake.
I breathe in the intoxicating scent of his cologne, which helps me calm down and catch my breath.
After a few seconds with my head against his chest, I pull away and look him in the eyes. He looks just as shaken as I am.
“Do you even realize what you almost did? Who the hell runs in ten–centimeter heels toward an open window?”

Chapter 57
I clasp my necklace around my neck–where it should’ve been all along.
Just as I’m about to turn around to close the window, I feel a presence behind me. I grab the lamp on my dresser, turn around, and lock eyes with Alexander’s playful gaze. I sigh in frustration.
‘I knew it was way too easy for you to actually do what I asked.”
You’re starting to know me.”
Get out for real this time.”
Or you’ll bash my skull in with that lamp, right?”
He chuckles. Honestly, I have zero credibility at this point.
You know what we should do?”
Sit on my bed and let you fuck me every way I want you to? That it?”
He gives me a look full of innuendo while I try not to murder him.
Don’t make me use the lamp on you.”
You don’t really see me as a threat, not with the relieved face you made when you saw it was me.”
I don’t see you as a threat… for now. You want to kill me, just not yet.”
He raises an eyebrow.
You really think that?”
Seems logical to me.”
If I wanted you dead, you’d be dead already. I would’ve let you splatter like a pancake earlier.”
I said ‘later. You still need me alive for now.”
You think you’ve figured me out?”
I’m not that arrogant.”
Oh really? Doesn’t look like it!
I’d like you to get out of my room. Immediately.”
I’d like you to let me undress you. Immediately. But we’re not getting what we want.”
His mocking smile drives me insane.
“Why don’t you go say that to your conquests?”
“Because they’re not you. Right now, you’re the only woman I truly want”
Why does the lower part of my stomach tingle so much when he says that? I know he’s skilled in the art of lying and manipulation. Yet my body seems to believe him.

He says it like I intentionally risked my life. He grabs my hand firmly, then places the necklace in it. I stare at him, confused.
“I don’t want you pulling another suicide stunt just for this necklace.”
That wasn’t a suicide attempt.
“Keep it safe this time.”
I stay silent. I grip my necklace tight, afraid he’ll change his mind and take it back.
His eyes drop insistently to my lips like they’re a forbidden fruit he’s dying to taste. He leans in slowly.
can’t move even though I know what’s about to happen.
My heart pounds. The adrenaline clouds my reasoning.
close my eyes and lean toward his lips, giving him easy access.
Seconds pass–no contact.
hear a snicker that makes me want to destroy everything. I open my eyes, though I wish I could’ve kept them shut forever.
Alexander is laughing like a complete idiot.
You didn’t want to kiss me, huh? Sure didn’t look like it! What were you doing with your eyes closed and lips parted, waiting or mine? You wanted a kiss straight out of a Hollywood movie, didn’t you?”
‘ve never felt so humiliated. I’m so ashamed I want to crawl into a hole and never see him again.
You’re such a jackass, Alexander!”
A jackass you wanted to kiss,” he laughs.
Get out right now! I never want to see you again!”
I try to push him toward the door. He keeps laughing and doesn’t move an inch.
‘Out!
He places his palm on my cheek. I yank away violently.
‘Don’t be embarrassed, doll. It’s all good.”
“Go fuck yourself!”
“Fine, I’ll go to please you, but I’ll be back. This week without seeing you was pretty damn boring–we’ve got some time to make up for
My heart’s pounding unnaturally fast. But I fake indifference.
“Leave!”
He smiles, then walks toward the window with determination and finally leaves the room. He grabs onto the tree, and eventually I don’t see him anymore.
I finally take off my heels and remove my dress. I go to my dresser to grab my satin robe. I take it and slip it on.

Chapter 57
“Leave me alone and get out of this room.”
“You should know I have trouble accepting orders.”
“It’s not an order. More like a request.”
He stares at me, his gaze lingering on the satin robe covering my body.
Holy shit, it’s the robe he gave me before our trip to Italy.
“I see you liked my gift.”
I look away to hide my discomfort.
:
“Don’t flatter yourself. I just thought it was a waste to ruin such a pretty robe, and I put it through the wash several times to get your scent off it.”
“Oh yeah? Funny, I can still smell the cologne I sprayed on it.”
Kill me now.
“I clearly don’t owe you any justification.”
“If it makes you feel better to believe that.”
“I’m going to my bathroom. When I get back, I want you completely gone.”
I’m about to turn and leave when he grabs my arm. He pulls me close and suddenly presses his lips against mine.
I don’t move for a few seconds, trying to process what’s happening.
It’s the first time we’ve kissed. He finally got the kiss he came for.
The touch of his lips on mine sends a shiver down my spine – they’re so soft and warm. I’m incapable of pushing him away when his tongue starts moving and mine instinctively follows. My reason just walked out the door.
He grabs me by the waist to pull me against him while our lips challenge each other. His grip is firm and possessive. I can’t think anymore.
I’ve never felt so much body heat from just a kiss.
His tongue plays with mine, in perfect sync.
I can’t break free from his hold.
I wish I could resist, because this kiss is awakening sensations in me I’ve never felt before.
After a few minutes, when oxygen becomes a need, he pulls away. He gives me a wide, triumphant smile like a child who just received the best gift ever.
“I finally got my long–awaited kiss. It marks the beginning of a very great story, doll”
He heads for the window and escapes like a fugitive.
