I nodded.
“Safe travels.”
He looked at me, calm. “Good luck… from now on.”
“You too.” I smiled and turned to leave.
After walking some distance, I looked back. They were still standing there.
The sunlight fell on them like a poster from a romance drama.
This time, I didn’t envy them. I didn’t feel jealous either.
Because now, I knew–I finally had my own light.
After arriving at Midnight Pack, I started learning under Professor Jeremy.
I spent every day in the lab and library, busy but fulfilled.
I applied for a student loan and got a tutoring job.
It covered tuition and living expenses. I even saved a little each month- slowly paying off that 150,000 dollars.
Once in a while, I’d hear news about Anderson from former classmates.
That he went to a top university abroad, that he and Helen broke up, that the Giorgio family business kept growing, and that he’d become a proper Alpha.

I just listened. Didn’t feel much.
A year later, I saved up my first lump sum.
I transferred it to my parent’s account.
They never called. I guess they gave up on forcing me into marriage.

Two more years passed. I gave a talk at an international aerospace forum.
I saw Anderson in the audience.
He was in a suit, more mature than back in high school, with a guy who looked like his assistant by his side.
After the talk, he stopped me. “Great presentation.”
“Thanks.” I smiled.
“That 150 grand,” he said, “I already paid it off for you.”
I frowned. “Why?”
“Let’s just say.. I owed you in a past life.
He looked at me with a kind of peace in his eyes.
“Jeanice, I’ve started my own company now. We’re working in aerospace, too. Maybe we’ll get to collaborate someday.”
I froze for a moment, then smiled.
“Sure, If there’s a chance.”
This time, we didn’t bring up the past. We didn’t ask about the future.
