The Bastard 1

The Bastard 1

Chapter 1

After the IVF succeeded, I returned to the States with the child I’d finally managed to conceive, wanting to give Quinn a surprise.

A friend kindly warned me that during my years abroad, Quinn had acquired a female secretary who loved to act coquettish and throw tantrums.

At first, I didn’t take it to heart.

After all, in the past, I only had to frown slightly and Quinn would immediately get rid of those eyesores.

But after returning home, I was shocked to discover-the daisies I’d planted in the villa garden had been hacked to pieces, a bikini that wasn’t mine was floating in the pool, and even the door code we’d used for 5 years had been changed!

After angrily pounding on the gate several times, it finally opened a crack, and a woman with a seductive figure appeared, leaning against the doorframe and looking me up and down with disdain.

“Where did this beggar come from, begging at our house!”

“Get lost! If you don’t leave, I’ll release the dogs!”

Damn, this woman was wearing my nightgown!

Quinn had certainly given her quite some nerve, letting her yell at me in my own home!

I had to get to the bottom of this today-did he still want this ninth-generation Marshall heir I was carrying in my belly or not!

“Get that son of a bitch Quinn out here!”

The Dogo Argentino behind the door started barking at me, acting as cocky as its owner.

Lacey rolled her eyes.

“Old lady, who the hell are you? You think you can just waltz in and see Mr. Marshall whenever you feel like it?”

She looked me up and down with disgust.

“What’s security even for? They’re letting people in knockoff clothes into this neighborhood now!”

I have sensitive skin-most fabrics make me break out in rashes.

Quinn had specially ordered Italian fabric for my clothes because of it.

Never thought I’d see the day when I’d get looked down on for not wearing designer labels.

I was about ready to lose it.

In all these years, this was the first time I’d been blocked from seeing Quinn.

I pulled out my phone to call him and give him a piece of my mind.

But when I raised my hand, I realized my phone had died sometime during the trip.

So I just stuck my hand out and coldly demanded Lacey’s phone.

“If you’re screwing up his business, you know what’ll happen!”

My glare spooked Lacey. She froze for a second, long enough for me to snatch her phone.

I dialed that number I knew by heart, ready to tear into him, but Quinn’s gentle chuckle cut me off.

“Two minutes without texting me back and you’re already calling? Miss me that much?”

“I’m in a meeting. I’ll come home right after.”

I gripped the phone as all my words got stuck in my throat.

That intimate tone-if I wasn’t holding Lacey’s phone, I would’ve thought he was talking to me.

The next second, Lacey smugly grabbed her phone back and purred into it.

“Then hurry up and get back here. I want you to cook for me!”

She even put it on speaker.

Hearing their flirting through the phone, I barely kept my rage in check.

“Quinn Marshall, you get your ass home right now!”

Quinn paused, his voice questioning.

“Lacey, is someone else there with you?”

Lacey glared at me.

“Just some crazy bitch. I’ll get rid of her in a sec.”

“Fine. Just don’t make a scene. The company’s bidding on contracts right now-bad publicity would suck.”

Hearing his indifferent tone was like getting a bucket of ice water dumped on me.

The man who specially flew overseas to see me just last month couldn’t even recognize my voice now!

I couldn’t hold back anymore and raised my voice.

“Quinn Marshall, you don’t want me, fine-but you don’t want your kid either?”
