The Bastard 5

The Bastard 5

Chapter 5

That resounding slap stunned everyone.

After a moment of quiet, I heard someone swallow hard.

“Who is this person? They actually dared to hit Mr. Marshall!”

Someone in the know whispered gossip.

“That’s the Reed family! The Reeds keep a low profile, but they’re actually Beverly Hills’ old aristocracy!”

“The Marshalls? Ha! Nothing but nouveau riche! Without the Reed family’s support, that Marshall guy would be nothing!”

Quinn naturally heard this too. His face looked extremely ugly.

Normally, anyone who dared humiliate him wouldn’t live to see the next day!

But now, in front of Mrs. Reed, his confidence was shot.

A flash of suppressed rage crossed his face before Quinn took a deep breath and looked at my mother.

“Mom, what’s going on? Isn’t Shea supposed to be overseas taking care of herself? I visited her just last month. Did something happen to her?”

By the end, Quinn’s face had changed, his voice carrying genuine concern.

“What happened to Shea? Is she in trouble?”

My mother looked at his worried act and laughed coldly.

“Quinn Marshall, I never realized what a good actor you are! I must have been blind to marry my daughter off to you!”

She shoved Quinn aside, her sharp gaze sweeping the scene.

“Who made the phone call? Where is my daughter?”

A college-aged girl cautiously raised her hand, pointing at me.

“I made the call. That woman said she was the Reed family heiress!”

All eyes in the area turned to me. Just as my mother was about to come over, Lacey hurried to ingratiate herself.

“Mrs. Reed, this crazy woman is a fraud! She’s not Shea Reed! She’s just a homewrecker trying to seduce Mr. Marshall!”

Quinn also relaxed, stepping forward to my mother.

“Mom, you’ve misunderstood. Shea is perfectly fine overseas. How could she be here?”

“This strange woman came to my house today insisting she was pregnant with my child. That’s why Lacey got angry and hit her. I had no idea she’d be brazen enough to lie and say she was Shea!”

Hearing both of them say this, my mother stopped, hesitation flickering in her eyes.

She knew about Quinn’s oligospermia. Hearing about a pregnant woman showing up at his door, she instinctively assumed I was a scammer.

She tried calling me, but my phone was dead.

Lacey quickly added, “It’s nighttime there now. Shea Reed is probably sleeping.”

My mother glanced at her with displeasure.

“Quinn Marshall, your secretary is rather ill-mannered! Calling her ‘Shea Reed’ like that-shouldn’t she be calling her Mrs. Marshall?”

My mother had always commanded respect without anger. Lacey’s face went pale as she looked to Quinn for help.

Quinn’s expression stiffened.

“Don’t worry, I’ll teach her proper manners when we get back.”

My mother’s words carried meaning.

“Someone with such impure intentions might take quite a bit of effort to teach.”

She was worldly and had a sharp eye-she could tell immediately that Lacey was a scheming woman.

When I’d wanted to marry Quinn, she’d tried to stop me many times. Unfortunately, I’d been love-struck then, blinded by Quinn’s sweet words!

Seeing my mother about to leave, I suddenly broke free from the people holding me and threw myself forward.

“Mom, it’s me!”

The hoarse, broken voice that squeezed from my throat was unrecognizable.

But my mother, who’d been walking ahead, whipped around. Her gaze fell on my face, which was beaten beyond recognition, and she looked shocked.

“Shea, is it really you!”
