The Bastard 8

Chapter 8

Quinn’s look of disgust suddenly froze. His gaze unconsciously fell on Lacey’s belly.

The Marshall family was also stunned.

Grandmother Marshall, who had been pulling Lacey’s hair, stopped her movements upon hearing this and blurted out:

“You’re really pregnant? Is it our Marshall family’s child?”

Mrs. Marshall’s eyes flickered as she cleared her throat twice.

“Shea, regardless of everything else, she’s a pregnant woman now, and the child is innocent.”

“How about we wait until after she gives birth before dealing with her?”

As she spoke, she quickly gave Quinn a meaningful look.

After a long moment, Quinn’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he said to me in a low voice:

“Shea, let me take Lacey for an ultrasound first.”

Knowing he was in the wrong, he didn’t even dare look me in the eyes.

I laughed coldly inside, seeing right through his thoughts.

He didn’t love me at all-he loved the Marshall family’s nine-generation bloodline!

I said coldly:

“Why don’t you sign the divorce papers before you go! Perfect timing to fulfill both your wishes!”

Quinn’s voice carried a hint of guilt as he explained to me:

“Shea, you know I’m the ninth generation of single heirs in the Marshall family. This child is our family’s lifeline!”

He thought for a moment, then said magnanimously:

“Don’t worry, even if she gives birth to a son, it won’t affect your position. I’ll bring the child over for you to raise.”

I looked at him in amazement, as if seeing this man I’d shared a bed with for years for the first time.

How could he say such things so righteously?

Did he think my talk of divorce was just a petty tactic to compete for his attention?

Did he think I would become a stepmother to a bastard?

I was too angry to speak, but Quinn thought I’d agreed. He quickly picked up Lacey to take her to see the doctor.

Before leaving, Lacey didn’t forget to give me a provocative look from Quinn’s arms.

The door slammed shut with a “bang,” and my mother laughed coldly.

“What do they take the Reed family for! Does my daughter care about raising your bastard!”

She looked at me angrily.

“I’m telling you, if you’re still thinking about that heartless bastard, I won’t acknowledge you as my daughter!”

I knew my mother was afraid I’d soften, so I said firmly:

“Don’t worry, I absolutely won’t forgive him this time!”

Only then did my mother breathe a sigh of relief.

“I think the Marshall family has forgotten-forgotten who helped them rise to power!”

With that, she made a phone call directly.

“That Marshall family bidding matter-rearrange it!”

After giving the order, my mother sneered.

“With Quinn’s oligospermia, it’s not even certain this child is his!”

“You two couldn’t conceive for so many years, took dozens of IVF attempts to succeed, and that Lacey can get pregnant naturally?”

I had a pretty good idea too, saying calmly:

“Just investigate her and we’ll know. I’m afraid Quinn is in for a disappointment.”

My mother’s eyes lit up, and she quickly sent people to handle it.

During my recovery at the hospital, Quinn sent people to check on me daily, with various supplements and jewelry flowing in like water.

But he himself never appeared even once.

The butler taking care of me stammered, saying Lacey was making a big fuss at the hospital, claiming severe morning sickness and that she couldn’t be without Quinn.

I heard the Marshall family took her to check that she was carrying a boy.

They also did a paternity test, confirming it was indeed Marshall family blood.

So the Marshall family tacitly allowed Lacey’s tantrums.

At the same time, they didn’t forget about me as their daughter-in-law, trying to reconcile Quinn and me.

I scoffed at the Marshall family’s two-faced behavior and deliberate flattery.

What qualification did such a heartless, ungrateful man have for me to fight over?
