The Bastard 9

The Bastard 9

Chapter 9

Under the care of our family hospital, my body quickly recovered from the miscarriage.

Meanwhile, the Reed family began their relentless revenge against the Marshall family.

The Marshall family had money but no connections, relying entirely on the Reed family’s networking.

Now that my mother deliberately leaked news of Quinn’s and my divorce, public opinion immediately shifted.

First, the Marshall family company failed in bidding, then their funding chain had problems.

Quinn was so busy he was at his wit’s end, too occupied to even glance at Lacey’s hospital tantrums.

Only then did Quinn realize that without the Reed family, he was nothing!

On the day I was discharged, I ran into Quinn holding flowers at the hospital entrance as soon as I came downstairs.

He seemed to have been waiting a long time. The moment he saw me, he hurried forward.

“Shea…”

But before he could reach me, he was already blocked.

Quinn’s face darkened immediately.

“Get lost! I’m meeting my wife-what right do you have to stop me?”

But the bodyguard just gave him a disdainful glance and didn’t even bother speaking.

I said flatly:

“The divorce papers have been sent over. If you want to save the Marshall family, sign them quickly!”

Quinn’s body shook.

“Shea, I don’t believe you’re this heartless! Didn’t we promise ‘forever’?”

I curved my lips mockingly:

“You also once said you’d be devoted to me alone and never betray me!”

“Quinn Marshall, what right do you have to mention past promises in front of me!”

He wanted to argue further when a sweet voice came from the car nearby.

“Quinn, the baby kicked me. I feel terrible. Please take me home!”

Lacey, wearing maternity clothes, hugged Quinn’s arm and stuck out her belly at me provocatively.

Quinn instinctively wanted to push her away, but seeing her protruding belly, he withdrew his hand.

He looked at me, stammering:

“Shea, don’t worry, what I said before won’t change. This child absolutely won’t affect your position!”

Seeing his hesitant, conflicted appearance, I felt even more regret.

Regret that I’d wasted my youth on such a person. Watching him help Lacey back to the car, I quickly told my driver to leave.

Even looking at this man one more time disgusted me!

Learning what happened that day, the Reed family immediately gave Quinn an ultimatum.

If he wanted to keep this child, he’d better sign the divorce papers quickly.

Now even the Marshall family began urging Quinn to divorce.

Grandmother Marshall wailed dramatically, saying she’d do anything to protect her precious great-grandson.

I heard she cursed me plenty at home, calling me cold-blooded and heartless, unable to tolerate even one child.

Not being able to bear sons for their nine-generation Marshall lineage was my misfortune as a daughter in law-I wasn’t worthy of being their daughter in law!

I looked at the test report in my hands without saying a word.

When this child’s full-month celebration came, I’d give the Marshall family a big gift!

Under the Marshall family’s pressure, Quinn finally signed the divorce agreement.

The day he delivered the papers, he had someone tell me:

Once the child was born, he’d remarry me and absolutely wouldn’t marry Lacey.

I really didn’t know how his brain worked, thinking I’d willingly raise his bastard!

Perhaps I’d loved him too much before, giving him such delusions.

Just as I began taking over the family business, Lacey gave birth to a boy.

My mother got me an invitation to the full month celebration.

“After holding back all these days, won’t you go see the show?”
